PDF Documents

I am having problems loading PDF documents. If I click on a PDF document available for download from a website a new Window opens. The background in the new Window is black. A blue bar moves across the screen to indicate the download progress. When the blue bar has completed its progress, the PDF document used to open. Now, when the blue bar has completed its progression I'm left with a black background, the completed blue bar, and no PDF document.

I am ok saving the document by right clicking its name and the selecting 'Save Link As ...'. The document will open from the area of my PC where I save the document to.

I would still like to be able to open PDF documents as before, i.e. simply clicking on the document. Any ideas as to why it may be doing this? Could I have inadvertently set some choice in Firefox (my browser) or Adobe Reader 10? How can I solve this issue?

    Thanks

Have you always had this problem since installing Adobe Reader 10? What about your previous PDF reader? Same problem then?

I gave Adobe Reader 10 a try in my laptop (Windows Vista) and removed it because I found it sluggish. Before installing Adobe Reader 10, I was using Adobe Reader 8.4. After removing Adobe Reader 10, I got version 9.x, which is working fine.

Also, have you tried clearing your browser history?

What version of Firefox are you using? What version of Windows? How much RAM in your computer? Ever tried another PDF reader such as Foxit Reader?

No, it worked correctly until recently. I'm not sure when it started playing up. I also used it on my last PC (this is a new one) and it worked fine on there too.

    Version 9.

    No.

I have my browser set up to never remember any history. I also run CCleaner at least once per week.

No, my PC came pre-installed with an application called PDF Complete. I've haven't bothered with it. I don't know how good it is? I don't even know which company produces it.

Try going to Tools>Options>Application tab in FF. Do see either Adobe or PDF Complete in the list of Content Type? If so what is the setting on the right say (Always ask, Save or Use Program)?

It says: "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)".
