pdf files slow

whenever i open pdf files my computer basically freezes for a minute. i was wondering if there was any way i can make them open faster and smoother. i have a 1.3 ghz processor and 512mb ram so i dont think it should be slow. thanks for any help

 

Are the PDF files local or from the internet? If you are having problems opening files from the internet, download them instead. I provide that advice on the assumption you are using dial-up.

 

What do you mean by "freezes for a minute"?

Adobe Acrobat is notoriously slow to open, but whether I would say it's freezing is another matter.

There is a utility in the downloads section here that will speed it up, but I don't remember the name sorry.

 

all the files are from online. i am actually on a college network so my internet is really fast. it just seems wierd that it takes so long so i thought there would be a way to fix it

 

The computer you are on-- is it college property or yours?

 

it is my computer and i feel like i take pretty good care of it. i run the defragmenter and virus scan a lot and keep everything pretty clean. thats why i just thought it would run faster

 

1.Try pessing shift key while you open the pdf.
2.Try downloading the file to your pc first and then open.
