alright hey guys...i got a problem...i got one of the following viruses...or maybe both...i continously try to scan my computer with norton anti virus but it keeps restarting when it gets to a certain folder or file...the folder or file is located in C:\Windows\ The computer keeps restarting even if i'm running the scan in safe mode, in safe mode and command prompt, normal mode. I tried scanning it with free online scanners but even when i try that the computer restarts...so i have no way of erasing the virus the way symantec instructs...btw i noticed the computer had a virus when i had an error similar to this when i started the computer...MultiByteToWideChar and it mentioned KERNEL32.DLL and how an entry point of iexplorer.exe wasn't working...that's how i figured out that i have that virus after i researched the error on the net...my computer is windows xp ... can any of you guys please help me?

i think i have seen this problem before, with scanners crashing. i think the only reason we could come up with was the system overheating, but. because you have a virus, and you get error messges about kernel.dll, which is the system kernel, im thinking it could be a virus defense mechanism. what are your hardware specs?

This is strange! According to McAfee:

This virus does not infect 32bit PE files and does not function under common 32bit OS's like Windows 9x, NT, 2K or XP as long as no additonal software is installed which adds support for 64bit applications.

Are you running 64bit XP or any other 64 bit applications?

I don't know Hugo! You may want to post a question on that in the software forum.
