How dangerous are they? two days ago a mate brought me some photos on his pen drive, when I stuck it in the screen scrambled then re-appeared showing a message “NO HARDWARE DETECTED” then everything USB related failed, Linksys, printer, mouse, speakers and camera. Tried in vain to get things going gave up and switched off. Miracle of Miracles after setting a restore point I got my mouse back, tried everything again, no luck still nothing switched off again. Two hours later switched back on again and low and behold no more problems. WHY ANYBODY WHY!!! was there something on his drive that could have caused the problem

    Nasty Lot !!!!!

Ok I put a thing about pen drives in the hardware section, no one said anything to me, :( maybe it was a bit vague, What happened a mate (NO LONGER) brought me some photographs on his pen drive (NO MIMS THEY WEREN’T) as he stuck it in the USB port the screen scrambled and I lost everything USB related! Mouse, Printer, Lynksys, messed about, restored, no good, switched off and went for a pint. Next day switched on, the mouse came back on but that was all, gradually through the day, miracle of miracles everything restored itself. The question is, could there have been something on the drive, or was it the port itself. ANY IDEAS. I had used his pen drive previously.

Perhaps no one had an idea what went wrong? Hey, I have a few threads back there that are unanswered too, luck of the draw I guess. Good luck in figuring it out.:)

Hey tony,As I was reminded in software nothing's safe. There may be several reasons why it did what it did.The pen drive may not be compatible with your OS, it may be corrupted or the pics, the person who gave it to you may have a bug on his pc and not know it and just gave it to you. Just because your pc seems to be ok does not mean it is. Everything is Not what it appears to be when it comes to malware and I'm sure you know that. Be patient someone will be around to help you. It's a busy place here and I'm sure you've figured that out by now. If you are that worried then do the R&R and post the logs. What ever it is/was I wish you luck.
