pentium 640 vs D830

Hello to all:
Finally decided to upgrade from my Asus P5GD2-basic (915P chipset) to the
Asus P5WD2 Premium (955 chipset)- now, there is a couple of things that I just cant make my mind up on, and deciding on a cpu has kept me up reading and the more I read the more undecided I get- bottom line is that I have a 530j 3.0GHz that is pretty good but for my new system just cant decide between the pentium D 830 3.0GHz(dual core) or pentium 650 3.4GHz (hyperthreading) I just want to hear opinions as to witch is best (and why) please- ,

both are good chips if you play a lot of games go with the 640 to make use of hyperthread if you multitask dual core is better hope that helps

 

I've been pondering the same issue, and heard similar feedback... Get the faster single processor for playing games vs. the dual processor if multitasking. I mostly play games and rarely multitask... BUT what about a year or two down the road... any predictions/info on whether games and other software will be written to take advantage of the dual processor? Will the slightly slower (individually) dual processors provide better performance than the faster single processor even when not multitasking?

 

depends on how fast they get the programs running right on dual core but for now my personal choice is a single core. its really all up to you and how often you upgrade
