Is there a program that will delete programs, movies, files off of my computer permently. When i download these things they take spaces or memory off of my hard drive. i want to recover the space after i normally delete them. Before i had to do a windows recovery I had only 17% resources left

hope that made sense. i dont know much about how computers works even though i took courses

Can't you just empty the Recycle Bin when you delete them from your hard drive?
You could also use something like CCleaner to get rid of the "hidden" temporary stuff and free up even more space.

someone told me if you just delete them from your recycle bin that it still remands on your computer.

The way to find out would be to record the amount of space left, delete the file(s), empty the Recycle Bin, then check the space left again.

Yes, the information remains until it is overwritten. Eraser http://www.majorgeeks.com/Eraser_d4221.html is a program that will overwrite those files you don't want recovered.

The information remains on the hard drive after deletion, but if you are only looking to reclaim space then there shouldn't be a problem. Just delete them in the normal fashion, empty the recycle bin, and the space is yours to re-use.

Sweep 5.2.2. overwrites deleted files. Been using it for a months or so now. Seems to work OK

    Hi Just Playin,

Just to let you know – I tried/used Eraser 5.7 for a while when the last version came out in 2004 and it worked fine on smaller files; however it often "locked up" on me when deleting very large files from within the Recycle Bin as well as larger folders filled with old install .exe's, etc.

Sometimes – not always but occasionally – the dialog box would 'freeze up' and then I was unable to close it. In this case, I'd have to restart the system to get rid of the dialog box. I contacted the developer Heidi Computers Limited [who were very nice about this and promptly answered my e-mails] However I tried the fix that they offered - uninstalling it and then reinstalling it again - but the same problem persisted.

I'm not knocking Eraser at all but I just wanted to relate this problem that I had while using it. If you like using Eraser and have had no problems with it; you might want to check out the author's site [Heidi Computers Limited] because it was just recently updated last week to Eraser 5.8, on Mar 31st 2006.

I currently use CCleaner; which in my experience, does not lock up [no matter how huge the Recycle Bin or the file/folder that I want to overwrite] and also has the ability to choose several choices in the Options > Settings section for how it "securely" deletes files, from the right click menu [One, three or 7 passes] as well as the ability to add a right click option to delete files directly or from the Recycle Bin itself.

    Thanks Hammer!

I just tried Sweepi 5.2.20 - works great! I'm definitely going to spend a little more time tonight reading through the help files, etc. to learn more about all of the options, capabilities, etc.

;) Great Find - Thanks Again Hammer! Whoo Hoo! ;)
