Personalizing Sounds in Win 7

Hi

In Win 7 when I click on Sounds in Personalize there is no response. Unable to see perhaps a menu where I can do changes e.g. start up / shutdown sounds.
The other options work (Desktop Background / Color / Screen Saver)

Any help appreciated.

Have you had any malware infections of late?

Is this a Home PC or a Corporate PC on a network, I ask this as some companies lock down many fo the Control Panel features via Group Policy?

Do you get any sound and this is just that you cannot change the Windows various sounds like Startup and Shutdown, or do you get no audio playback from your PC?

Can you try this and click Start > Control Panel > System And Security > Action Center > Troubleshooting > Hardware and Sound > and then try the Audio troubleshooters to see if they can find an issue with your Audio

Boot to Safe Mode and then try the audio properties and see if you can change as you may have a security program that "could" be blocking some changes.

Hi

I am not aware of any hardware problems.
This is a Home Computer.
I have sound via my headphones. No speakers are attached & as suggested I am unable to change start up / shut down sounds.
As far as para 4 is concerned in your response when I carry out the procedure the process just seem to run and run with no details after several minutes.

I have not tried your suggestion in para 5 as yet. As a result of no change, shall I put it to the test.

The Win-7 startup sound is locking inside a DLL file and is NOT a normal sound file as we've gotten used to. So forget about that. But, you should be able to set other sounds much like you did on XP, ME or even 98.
