Pet hair and carpets

As you may or may not know, we have 4 dogs. 2 of them shed like crazy (German Shepard and Golden Retriever) even with a groomer in the house and regular brushing.

Well, we have been going through a vacuum about every 8 months lately and needed to replace it yet again. Walking thorugh Wal-Mart, we were looking at the vacuums they had for sale and an employee came up and told us which one she had. Surprisingly, she had the $48 Bissell Powerforce. She told us that she had long hair cats that shed like crazy and it worked well for her. Being as we have had bagless vacs all this time, I was a little skeptical, then she told us that if we didn't like it, we could return it within 90 days with the receipt.

Well, I just got it put together and did the living room and dining room and HOLY COW!!! this thing is GREAT!!!! You would almost thing that we no longer own pets. So, the moral of the story is that if you have pet hair all over your carpets and your vacuum isn't cutting it, try this one from Wal Mart. I am now a bag vac man

Thanks for the info. We "inherited" a long hair kitten from my daughter. He sheds a lot. She picks up all kinds of strays along side the road.

I will have to check out this vaccum.

 

Speaking from experience with heavy pet hair and carpets, every Bissell we've bought has broken down in under three months. Sick of having to buy a replacement three or four times a year, we went out and bought a Dyson. This thing really sucks! (in a good way). What you see in the commercials is true. It's very easy to use, very powerful, and has never lost suction. When we bought it, we had cleaned the carpets twice over with our old one before trying the Dyson out. Just to see how it cleaned. In 20 minutes time, we had emptied the container five times! That's how much hair and dirt the Bissell was leaving in the carpets.

If you worry about pet hair, I highly recommend the Dyson. Two years and it's still sucking strong like it was new. Well worth the money IMO. You definitely get what you pay for.

 

We are using a "Dirt Devil" . . . now in it's second year of my "trials." It seems to work very well, as long as the filter element is kept cleaned out. So far the best model I have purchased that uses a barrel-type filter.

We have four (yes - FOUR) cats . . . I had one elderly cat when we got married, and she had two mature members of the cat tribe. Last year she was yearning for a kitten ("But honey, it's been ten years since I had a kitten . . . ") A couple of batted eyelashes and a snuggle or two later, we had another cat . . .

Yes . . . I admit I like the not-so-kittenish-cat-after 6 months- critter . . .

Pet hair is a big problem around here . . .

 

Well, I love it so far, but I will keep this all in mind as we go. If there are any status changes, I will be sure to let you all know (if it dies in 3 months, I am sure that I will be in here with a rant on the subject, I'm really good like that )

thats why i shaved my dog fully...solves the hair problem.....but now she trembles from the cold and does nothing but sleep

 

LOL... personally, I could never shave the kids like that.... but that's jsut me. You learn to live with it after a while, but it is so nice to be able to see the floors again.
