I posted a while back about phantom bass coming from my pc..
One of you suggested to look into the fan speeds/possible defects.

    It is indeed my fan(s).
I believe it to be the cpu /core fan.

Any activity whatsoever revs my fan like a darn V-8, this even includes :
    Starting up
mousing over - yes, just mousing over ANY icon, especially desktop..
Horrendous noise while running programs of any sort..
Even a revving noise if I move the mouse or mousewheel at any point in the startup/OS phase..
Bassy booming while playing games, when an action is performed (perhaps my GPU fan is chipping in to maintain fps?)
The aforementioned game problem is so bad, I thought for sure this was a SOUND hardware issue, on account of how the noise is perfectly coincidental with the firing of an FPS gun, casting of an MMORPG spell, even the footsteps seemed to be mimicked.

How can you guys help me, you might be wondering?

Well.. I took a reading using BIOS and a app named SpeedFan, tell me if this is considered normal for a new eMachines AMD Athlon x2 dual core with a gf6150se (onboard :{) gpu and 3GB of DDR2 memory... this problem is growing worse over time and did not exist when I brought the tower home.
Did eMachines cheap out on my fan(s) and now I need to replace? Here are the readings :

    CPU Fan speed : 1882~rpm
    CORE temp : 38 celcius
geforce GPU temp : 41 celcius

Odd thing is, the fan speed doesnt seem to change while being monitored, however the vibrations and noise would severely beg to differ. I never clocked it over 1888.

So is my system running hot? Fan way too fast? Can anyone reccomend a more user-friendly fan/temp monitoring app, as SpeedFan was too confusing for me to try and change any settings.

Please, any input at all will be greatly appreciated, I can't even run my PC after 11 pm due to sound curfew in my appartment building because of the deep bassy rumbling.

Thanks in advance for your time!

    Hello,

temps and fan speed are good.

As you have narrowed down the problem, the next step is to replace the offending heat sink and fan. This is quite easy to do if you have the proper instruction. Have a look at this site: http://www.jsyte.com/tutorials/replacehsf

collinsl has got you pretty well covered there ... another thing i just thought I might add ... if for whatever reason a stock fan will not meet your noise specifications, you can get aftermarket High Performace fans to fit just about any CPU ... some of them proven to be ultra quiet ... but obviously give the new stock fan a go first.
