I have been using MGI Photosuite 4 for years, its been discontinued for quite some time now. It still works on my Windows 7 but it crashes often and doesn't work like it use to. I was wondering if anyone knew of any programs that are very similar. Something that allows me to scan images and resize them manually with rulers. I make stencils and I need something that lets me do exactly what MGI does.

    Hi

I know when old apps dont work properly in newer Windows is a PITA as I loved Microsoft Photo Image Pro, worked really well until Win 8.1, but one app apart from Photoshop that maybe a good alternative is GIMP as its free and will scan your images and also allow you to manipulate the images into layers, personally I still use Photoshop CS5 (not made the jump to pay for latest version) but do use GIMP

I use a free program called Irfanview, primarily because I am not clever enough to figure out how to work Gimp or Photoshop.

GIMP is pretty easy to use. Here are some GIMP tutorials that can help you if ever you decide to use it.
