Photo Files Now Open In Netscape

I had to have my PC scrubbed and XP reinstalled. When I got my computer back, all my photo files were listed as Netscape files, rather than Windows Photo/Fax Viewer, or whatever that other on is. I reinstated IE as my default browser. Nothing. Photo files still open in Netscape.

I did retro back to Netscape 7.2 for the Composer/Editor feature (is Netscape progressing backwards? That's another thread.), but that was after the fact.

I thought I saw a thread, here, about this but can't find it.

Anybody?

 

Right click on any picture-

Click Properties

2 or 3 lines down it says "Open With", and then it lists the program. In your case, it will say Netscape something.

Click change, and select Windows Pictures and Fax Viewer.

 

I was hoping for a fairy godmother who would correct them all at one time.

On that open with window there is a little box at the bottom that says always open this type of file with (or something like that) I think that is the fairy godmother you are looking for. It also works with other file types such as mp3's for example. I know this because I recently had all my file associations corupted due to a custom virus cleaner send by my anti virus software company. I had to restore all my file types.

 

Do as earlthemailman suggested but take it one step further.

Right click on the desired file and then select "Open With". Select a program from the list that you would like to use for that type of file. Now checkmark the box at the bottom of the window that says something like "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file". Then click OK and I think you'll have just what you want.
