    Windows XP 5.1.2600 SP 3 Build 2600
    1.25 GB RAM
    44 GB free on HD

    When trying to print photos with the Windows XP Photo Printing Wizard I keep getting the following error when the Layout Selection box first appears:

    ~~~~~
    Photo Printing Wizard Error
    The following error occurred while the wizard was working with the picture named XXXXXX:
    Not enough storage is available to process this command.
    Cancel Try Again Continue
    ~~~~~

    If I click Try Again, the photo appears in the preview box.
    If I click Continue, the preview box is blank.

    When I select the layout I want, I get the same error message with the name of the next picture.

    When it prints, some of the photos don't print.

    This is driving me crazy! I need to print a contact sheet with the photo names under the pics. I've tried other layouts, they don't have the pic names, printing results vary.

    How do I free up 'storage' for this to work?
    I've run Disk Cleanup, deleted Temp Internet Files, etc.
    I've searched the internet and haven't found an answer.

    Thanks,
    jero

    Have you tried killing processes that take up too much virtual memory/RAM? Processes like Msmpeng and SeaPort can take up too much RAM to that it can't process the requests to print anything - not enough data is going to the printer.

    Aphelion5 thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I don't know enough about 'processes' to feel comfortable deleting them. :(

    The strange thing is, a few days before the error started, I didn't have any problem printing these pics as a contact sheet.

    Last night I tried printing them on a different computer and got the same error. I spent 1.5 hrs downsizing them and they printed. Problem solved for now.

    If anyone knows what/where the 'storage' referred to in the error message is, please let me know for future reference.

    Thanks again,
    jero

    Hi

    Its possible that if the images you have are large in size and the contact sheet from memory only holds 35 images per A4 sheet that if you have 35 at say 20mb each is 700mb and if your PC and its other background tasks are using say 1GB out of your available 1.5GB (need also to know what PC you have make and model as if you have onboard graphics that could take anywhere from 125mb to 256mb of system ram) leeving you 200mb in arrears.

    As downsizing helped the above is plausable.

    To reduce this I would try and limit the amount of startups that boot with your PC, your System Tray (next to clock) is a good indicator of how many things are starting, also download and run CCleaner and install and once run click Tools > Startups and attach a screenshot (do crop the image as it maybe large)

    and we can advise you on any items in your startup that you can delete, if disabling any then use StartupCPL, dont use msconfig or ccleaner as they add a startup back as in msconfigs manager.

    Could also do a test with the originals with XNView as it has the capability to print contact sheets, as it maybe the Windows Printer Wizard that cannot handle the image sizes, to create a contact sheet with XNView navigate to your image folder and then highlight the images you want and then click Create > Contact sheet, at the next menu, you'll need to enter the paper size in pixels but this depens on dpi

    Use 1000 x 1000 pixels for the Page size and then once the contact sheet is created send to your Printer at A4, when Printing use in Layout tab, Thumbnail and 2 columns by 3 rows and it looks ok.
