A lady friend of mine has just received some photos of the latest arrival.

Is there any (probably free) software that will allow the selection of 4 photos and print them out on one page of A4 paper (8.5" x 11") so she can mail them out.

She has a Lexmark X1170 all-in-one Printer/Scanner and XP SP2 Compaq laptop. I can get more specs if needed. Bazza

Hate to go against AbbySue's word, but the Kodak Easy Share software suite is the WORST software I've EVER encountered. EVER. Every installation I've seen has caused serious problems for the system. Slowdowns, crashes are common. And like a true POS software, you need to get a specialized removal tool to get it completely out of your system.

Windows native print wizard will do the trick for her! No third party app required! Simply highlight the photos you'd like to print in Windows Explorer, right click, and select print. This gives all sorts of options on how to print them, including how you would like them rotated on the page, what size, how many, etc.

You aren't going against me you just had a bad experience with it which I haven't and I've been using it off and on since I got my DC290 back in 1999 or 2000. It's no different than any other software, what works great on one persons puter may have ill effects on someone else's.

Take Avast for example. Some swear by it t if I install it and try to use it I practically have to format to fix my puter b/c it hoses it. The purpose of this forum is to help and give accurate advice based on our knowledge and experience and that's what we are doing right?:)

I'd say that's very well put. As long as Bazza knows my experience with KES is that it has messed up about 6-10 computers on me. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot geek pole.

I recommend this software all the time..I'd say at a guess 50+ people (family, friends, friends of friends, etc) use it and I have never heard of any of them having problems. There are many reviews on-line that highly recommend it and some have user comments, some good some pretty bad. I think it's just the same as any other software...what might work well on some set ups is a disaster on others...and then of course you are also dealing with all the other variables...are there already issues with the puter such as malware? Hardware? A total newbie user that is lost to begin with? etc...etc...you just never know!:D

Perhaps I've soured on it quickly, but after seeing this mess up a couple of fresh installations, I'm sure you can understand why.

Once, one of our engineers requested it, saying that he wanted to "see if he liked it", and I told him, "you won't"

Next day he came crying to me, "get it off my system, its SOOOOO slow now"

I guess this is what Bazza will have to do. Trial and error, see for himself. But, here is the uninstall utility, just in case you need it. ;)

Then he must not have disabled the options to have things running at startup and/or in the background. It doesn't load it doesn't slow you down. I have nothing running on mine except when I access it so of course I've never had a slow down..none when I use it for that matter either.:)

Heh, wish you were right! I disabled all startup options! I had encountered THAT problem before, too! Its terribly intrusive if you don't!

I'll stop slagging it now, AS, you're right; it's hit or miss. I have seen ONE user who seems to have no problems with it.

I just don't understand why Bazza would take the risk if he could do what he wants right in Windows.

Geez Bazza another option would be to just "Insert" into a Word doc, right click on ea pic and select "Format Picture" > Layout > In Front Of Text, select "Other" and move it where ever you want it on the page (it should be unlocked now). You can also size all to be of = size, etc etc. Just did it now with a couple of pics and could slide them anywhere I wanted on the page without them interfering with each other (can overlay with out any problems) and can size using the corners or you can specify dimensions within the Format Picture sub-menu. I have done it this way for years for preparing reports and find it easy the only prob is docs get very big (file size) very quickly and can become more unstable with to many images and become corrupted.

Thanks all. I didn't mean to start a barney, though. Whatever solution is best, it really has to be simple as she is not very computer literate. I used the software that came with the Lexmark and was able to resize the images from full page down to quarter size but was unable to combine 4 different images to print on the one page. Eventually I printed them out one-by-one but it would be nice to use one page only, instead of 4 pages. Bazza

Thanks Bold Eagle. Unfortunately she only has the Microsoft Works bundle, not Microsoft Office, or Word. Do you know if this works with Works? Guess I can give it a try anyhow. Bazza

Dude, this will do it! There is a specific option to fit 4 on a page! Its SO easy this way!

Thanks M_M, that seems to be the simplest option so far. Bazza

i have easy share because i have a kodak camera. it can be a bit tempremental, but its almoast idiot proof, so thats a plus. i have an HP psc, and was told that HP, kodak, and MS dont play nicely together, but i think that any programmes that have to pray together eventually learn to play together. :) i must also add that the windows thing is simple and works. mine sometimes 'gets stuck' if you change the settings though. (by that i mean that either it wont accept the desired setting, or it will refuse to change it back) (my puter doesnt like change. :) )

Re: Photos Printing and Easyshare Progam

Photo printing "FREE" program called “Easy JPEG Printer”

Use the Google Search Engine and Type in

    Easy JPEG Printer

With this program you can have one photo 8” X 10” to page’ two photos 4” X 6” per page, and One to Four photos within the 3” X 5” per page.
    I feel will suit
    -------------------
    I agree with the comments on Esayshare Software, Too Large and when really most people have a photo editing program;

1] First Program you require is the old program of the = Picture Transfer Software = PTS14 = [Yes it is compatiable with Windows XP] [You may have to locate someone with this program = I do have same so be able send/give to you]

2] Then Install the = Picture Transfer Software PTS14

3] Next you require the = Camera Connection Software = which is available for download from the from Kodak Web Site. The program that you download is only the installer for the full Easyshare Program

4] During the Download of the Easyshare software [using the Kodak Installer] make sure you select the = Custom -Setup = to only install the = Connection Software = do not under any circumstances do not initiate to the box to download any other of the other Kodak programming!! [NOTE! You must Disable all the others]

5] After the computer restart go and uninstall the Kodak Easyshare program from = Control Panel = Add & Remove =

6] By uninstalling the Easyshare software this will enable you to have a thumbnail view available to look at when transferring the photos. If you do not it will not show the Thumb Nail in the Kodak transfer programming?

7] By using this programming it will shows the Kodak File Name [EG 100-526]

Hope will be of some help!

Thanks folks, for all the suggestions. It has to be really simple so the Explorer solution looks like the way to go. Very little learning required, no new software, etc. Bazza

Must be because you had grandkids int the threads title has generated heaps of interest. Some people are have complete system breakdowns themselves almost suffering coronary breakdowns and their thread generates less interest, LOL. It's not What you say Its How you say it.

You gotta grab 'em by the short and curlies in the title. It ain't no use saying in the title "I gotta problem". We know you have a problem otherwise you wouldn't be submittimg a thread to most of the forums here. It's a bit like putting a "For Sale" sign on something, and not much else. Just put the price and / or o.n.o, people are smart enought to figure it's for sale. Bazza

Easy JPEG is Quicker? = Re: Photos of the grandkids--Nah not mine

Suggest you should try the "FREE" program called “Easy JPEG Printer”

After using same you will find it is a very quick way to print out your photos.

One tenth the time using the "Word" process??

Can't you just use the basic photo printing wizard in XP and select 4 to a page?

Stop me if I'm wrong though ;)

I assume you are talking about the same solution that Mada_Milty suggested in post #3. This looks the simplest for her. I don't have a printer connected as yet to my new laptop so am unable to test it out on my PC. Will certainly try it next time I am helping her. Bazza
