    Ok here is my problem.
I have a "User A" that somehow is locking files in photoshop be it a PSD file or even a JPG...I am not sure if it is just these files but so far these are the ones I have been having problems...
"User B" is not able to open these files when need to edit or to import into a new drawing.
Me as an admin I am able to open the files on my computer and resave them.
What I want to know is how she is locking these files and if it is possible for me to unlock these without having to open the image and resave it.
Of course User A says they are not doing anything to lock the file but I find that hard to believe.
I know this sounds very strange but what can I do at least I can open them.
    Thanks for any help!

Are the users using the same computer? As a quick check, have User A save something and see if User B can open it, all while you watch. That way you can rule out if A is locking the files. It's a new one on me that you can lock files within Photoshop, so it makes me wonder if something else is going on...

nope these are two differnt computers
User A can open the drawings off the network
User B can't open the files off the network
Other users other than A and B can't open the files
Admin can open the files with no problems
that is why I am also confused.

Have you checked the prefrences/options for saving files to see if something inadvertently got changed so they are being locked automatically when saved?

Seeing I am not a photoshop guru I did my best to check things out and not sure if I know where to look...the only thing I noticed that was changes was for making tiff images I am not sure if that is what I am looking for or not...
I checked the box as it was on mine so maybe that will do it?
we will have to wait and see I guess

What kind of network? Do these computers have NTFS? Have you tried checking directory/file permissions?

My guess is that "user a" creates a file. NT sets that file as being the owner to "user a". "User b" tries to access said file, but can't due to permissions.

    Just a thought.....

One other note: I have heard of locked files within photoshop in only one case. The user can open the file, but is unable to save the file. But, can do a save as and then save the file. I know this isn't your situation, but this is the only thing I can think of with photoshop.

This is kind of my though too I guess
We are running a 2000 network and both users have NTFS.
I am just not sure why or how the user is changing the permissions to just this file...the other user can get to the directory just fine and see other files in that directory just can't open.
some users what can you do with them
