I could use some help here...
As of last night, Every time I try to open my copy of Photoshop 6, I keep getting a message telling me that there is not enough RAM to initialize Photoshop, then it shuts down. This is odd, as it was working fine up till last night. When I tried to open it in safe mode, I got the message that Photoshop couldn't be opened because of a hardware or system error, and that the error is unrecoverable...However, no other program seems to be suffering from the lack of RAM problem. I currently have Windows XP Pro, with 512mb RAM, and my system is an AMD Athlon XP2200+1.8GHZ. I have tried expanding my virtual memory, to no avail. I don't know if something is eating up the ram... I have tried removing some non-essential programs, and this hasn't worked either
Hope you can help me out...

If the preference file has become damaged this error can happen.... worth trying to create a new photoshop pref file.

Locate this file ( you will need to make hidden files show > Tools > Folder Options > View > and select Show hidden files and folders > apply ) Adobe Photoshop [version] Prefs.psp found here in Documents and Settings\[user profile]\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\[version]\Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings folder

Then Rename the Adobe Photoshop [version] Prefs.psp file to Adobe Photoshop [version] Prefs.old or copy and paste it to another location just as a backup and delete the one in that folder.

Start Photoshop as Photoshop creates a new preferences file and hopefully it will start ok.

[version] = your version of PS

Thanks for the advice guys...I ended up doing it the long way. A total Photoshop reinstall seems to have fixed the problem..Now I just have to track down all of the extra plugins that I had! Some of them have not copied across...Oh well, can't make an omelette...

I don't use PhotoShop, but I do use Acrobat and that has a "detect and repair" feature in the help menu.

Failing that, if you go into Add/Remove and select it for uninstall, it will give you the repair option.

Sadly photoshop doesnt come with that option... dunno why as you say Acrobat does have it.
