PhysX Problems

Ok so I've been trying to play Mirror's Edge recently and before that Crysis. The games would be sluggish in many areas and that didn't seem right to me. I have a brand new system with a NVidia 9800 GTX, AMD Phenom x4, and 5GB of RAM. So this didn't seem right that these games as resource intensive as they are should run poorly at max graphics. However I did realize that these games are both big physX games and I'm wondering if maybe that's my issue.

I don't have a physX card. What I have is the physX software that I guess emulates in-game physics? Not sure anyway, hoping someone else has had this problem and can possibly explain what my issue might be or even suggest a work around. Thanks.

What Windows does your system run?

Search for nVidia Forceware. One of the options is PhysX configuration, and will allow you to enable the built in PhysX processor, which runs much, much smoother than the software version.

I run Vista 64-bit. Sorry forgot to say that. Also Triaxx2, thanks for the advice. I'll try that and let you know the results.

Can you run dxdiag save it to your desktop and put the file on your next post? Or has your problem been solved?

Ok here it goes. DxDiag. Unfortunately I didn't really know what to download as far as forceware goes. I went onto the Nvidia site and just searched forceware only to find what seemed to be display drivers. I have the Nvidia control panel and within that is PhysX Configuration, but it just asks me which card I want to use it on and it was already on my 9800 GTX. After figuring that out, I went into the Mirror's Edge video options and disabled the software PhysX, but that just turned them off completely. Obviously after that the game ran flawlessly at max settings. But, I would really like those PhysX. The make a heck of a lot of difference.

What you need to search for is x64 nVidia Forceware. Google, or Yahoo are good. The nVidia site is... useless. It's not even very pretty to look at.

So would this be it? http://www.download.com/nVidia-ForceWare-Graphics-Driver-Windows-Vista-64-bit-/3000-2108_4-10630939.html

I believe this is just a different version of what I downloaded last night which the installation of looked exactly like a basic graphics driver installation. When I went into the Nvidia control panel, like I said I do have the PhysX Configuration settings, but my only option is to change which card I'm using PhysX on. Those configuration settings don't seem like what I'm supposed to be looking for.

The Download.com link there looks a lot like this one, which in turn looks a lot like a regular driver to me. I found this, PhysX System Software, but it's hard to tell from the site if it's compatible on 64-bit or not...

    EDIT:
Never mind, I am an idiot. It says right on there: Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)

Hmm that's weird. I did install this just after patching the game when I first started realizing there was a problem. I don't know, I'll tinker around with it see if there's some settings that I'm not seeing. Or maybe I'll just have to give in a get a physX card sooner or later. Thanks for all the help.
