    Hi
I am having trouble similar to this post: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=142089&highlight=browser

I have tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer and sometimes one will work but not the other for SPECIFIC websites. I have gone in and added the websites to allow them under security settings. Most of my problem is when I try to log into Yahoo games sites. I have called Qwest and they assure me my DSL connection is strong and working. I have a linksys router that I reset to factory default settings.

Sometimes I can get on the browser but not my P2P messengers like Yahoo or MSN. When I cannot connect to MSN I run the troubleshooter and it gives errors either in ports DNS.

I have tried to repair the internet connection and it is unable to do it.. time out error occured cannot renew IP address.

The only way i can get it back is to reboot.. sometimes that doesnt work... or unplug the router... that ususally works.... or sometimes by clearing out my history, files and cookies... then opening a new browser window it will work.

I tried what was suggested in the cited post... for a couple of sites.... and #1 (192.168.1.1) is ok.. but i get a timed out error on #2. The rest seem ok. This is even while connected to the site.

I was able to ping to yahoo but unable to connect with the browser.
This is about a 6 month old Gateway and I just replaced the MOBO. ALso my main computer MOBO crashed and I installed the HD from it to this one as a slave so I could access my files.

I am running WinXP Media Center on Gateway.. the second HD has XP Home but I am not booting with it. I checked the suggestions from other post and I already have NET 1.1 installed. :( so that isnt any help.
I even tried uninstalling IE and reinstalling it.

Another problem I have ... Windows is an OEM copy and I have no idea how to get past the request to put the CD in and install or change windows components when I have no disks???? Is there a way to find the files that do not appear to be on my computer? I have searched for specific files and nothing shows up.

    Can anyone offer more suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!!

Guess nobody knows how to help me with this problem. I have a little additional information ....
If i leave my browser open for an hour or so ..and try to click a link on that page ... I get the page cannot be found. Also, I notice in the bottom status bar it shows trying to log into 1.0.0.0 before it times into nothing. Its as if the browser is timing out. Yahoo websites are particularly picky. I have been able to run Ccleaner and it seems to help but I cannot keep deleting my cookies and history. THis is very frustrating.
    Anyone?????
    Thanks

Did you flush the DNS cache?

I dont know what that is or how to do it... is it something I should be doing? or is it something bad I might have done? lol
I was on phone with Microsoft support for over 3 hours yesterday..on another issue.. and it was interesting.. as long as I kept my messengers off the browsers only timed out 3 times in that whole time. Could there be a conflict with msn messenger, yahoo messenger, IE6, and Firefox?
Maybe they are competing for the same port.????
    Thanks

I thought I would run a HJT scan and post it ... maybe there is something someone can recognize....

Go to start / run / type "cmd" without quotes / enter ..at the command prompt you will have C:\ ....type... ipconfig /flushdns

    when done just type exit.

    See it that helps.
