picture problem

hi ya, Could someone please help me I have a folder with all our family pictures in it. I normally open a pic with windows picture and fax viewer however tonight when I tried to open a picture it came up with no preview available. other folders I have with pics open fine just this folder now is not. I saved a new pic to the folder and it opened as per normal. I just noticed that in the dimension column there is no dimensions listed but there is for the picture I just saved and that the modification date has been changed to 13/10/2007 for all the pictures could someone please help me fix this as I have about 50 family pictures here that can not be replaced.

Try Start > Run > then type regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll > then hit OK.

i typed it in and it came up with an error: could not be found

 

Try just copy and paste. It sounds like you are missing the space between regsvr32 and /. Just copy the command below and paste it in the box.

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

ok now it worked and said that it succeeded however I still can not open any pics

 

Try restarting the computer, then see if you get the no preview available.

It sounds like windows picture and fax viewer is ok, if you can open other photos with it. The date change I am not sure about.

Try to open/access the pictures with another software program. I would try Picasa http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4476.html it's free, it will search, locate and index every image on your system.

tried that program, it works well however could not find the pictures in that file only the 3 I saved the other day

 

anyone ??? did think that this would be an easy problem for you guys to fix.

 

when I open the folder the pictures are sitting there i can see the text, they just will not open with

 

I'm having a very similar problem. My pics actually disappeared, but they we recovered using data recovery software, and now I also get "no preview available" even though I can see the name of each picture. I started my own thread about it (here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=144534), but I'll keep an eye on this thread too, just to see if it gets figured out.

 

I had a look and yes it seems to be similar. I just don't get it the pictures are sitting there in the folder but I just can not open them in picture viewer. I am also surprised that no one here has been able to sort out the problem, I am no computer wiz however I thought that for the combined knowledge going around this forum that it would have been a standard simple fix

 

tried this

i just tried to open a picture in the following programs by right clicking and then selecting open with and this is what it came up with. it may help

windows windows and fax viewer:
"no preview available"

adobe photo shop
"could not open c:/documents and settings/home etc because a jpeg marker segment lenth is too short ( the file maybe truncated or incomplete)

Paint
"C:/ documents and settings etc : paint could not read this file. this is not a bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported

although $40.00 is nothing compare to the pic's i am trying to recover, I downloaded another program that another person suggested that looks similar, that did nothing at all , to which I then spent 1 1/2 hours trying to get it back off my computer
