I bought a refurbished HP DC5700 computer with Windows 7 Home Premium. I got a retired IT guy to transfer My stuff from my old Gateway that had Windows XP via a 4GB Flash drive. He transferred my desktop, documents, pictures etc, but did not use Easy Transfer Wizard as he didn't want to transfer al the crap and viruses etc from the old to the new.

Well, My documents transferred OK but under my pictures only some of the folder's have pictures in them. The others show the folder, but say "folder is empty". Also I had HP Photosmart Express, Premier, Essential and Essential 3.5 on my old computer, (have Hp Photosmart C4180 All-in-One printer. Only the Photosmart 3.5 transferred and I don't think I ever used it, so of course it has no photos.

All of my grandkids pictures from the last decade were in HP Photosmart Express or Essential. Except for scans, I never actually put them there, but put them under my pictures under my documents in the old computer. However somehow they ended up also in the HP Express (like 800+ pics.

I went on line to see if I could get these other HP programs but cannot find them to download. Someone says I might need codex if the pictures were compressed during Disc Cleanup. I don't know what that is.

Is there anyway to get my pictures back? They may still be on the Flashdrive????

I could not say if the pictures you are looking for are on the flash drive. I linked to the software you were looking for. If that does not help, I would contact the person you gave the computer to if possible.

When you download something is that the same as "Run"? If you download something and pick "save and run" does that install it? I went to the website and downloaded the full feature thingy and then I checked for Program Compatibility and it (windows I guess) reports That It is an incompatible Application. Any advice? Thanks for taking the time to try to help me, it is appreciated. If i get the old computer would I be able to copy and transfer the pictures or do you think they are sourced in the Photosmart Express and the is no way to get them back? How would I copy them and transfer them to new computer?
I do have the original Photosmart CD and had loaded that already, but nothing happened.

I am not sure how the Photosmart software works but if the person who has the computer with the photos did not format the drive, you should be able to get the photos back. You would transfer them by copying to your flash drive then connecting the flash drive to the Windows 7 computer. Edit: it is possible the person who transferred the files missed the photos if they were in another location.

The link I referenced is for any version of Windows 7 so it should have installed.
You stated you were running Windows 7.
When you downloaded it, did you safe it to a location on your hard drive. Save and run should have installed it. The file may still be on your hard drive. I would do a search for the file name. If it is not there, try saving only to the desktop and install in in an admin account by double clicking the exe file. Edit: If you have the install CD, there would no need to install again unless what you installed was for XP. That is a different version than the one required for Windows 7.

    I have Windows 7 32 bit.
I did install it from the disc, but then found an upgrade at HP website for W7. It is showing up in "downloads". Some of the picture folders in "my pictures" on old computer are showing. I'm betting that he had to transfer them directly from Photosmart essential which for some reason had a library of 800+ pictures that it gathered from "my pictures" file.
Thanks for taking the time to help. It's appreciated. I Called the guy to bring my old computer back to try repeat transfer the pictures.
