My computer has been having the problem where the screen freezes and turns pink.

    I don't know what it's from.
Is there anyway I can tell?

    Thanks

Does anyone know what would cause a pink screen?

    1, Video card going bad
    2. Monitor going bad
    3. Poor cable connection between monitor and computer
    4. Bad video cable

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

Like to add heat issue is your system getting really hot.

Let us see your temps HWMonitor 1.23

Is this a desktop or laptop and what windows are you running. What kinda video card are you running.

It is a desktop on Windows 7(I had the same problem when it was on Windows XP)
Video card is an E-GEFORCE 8800 GT

My fan did break but I now have a fan blowing right on the motherboard in the case, so I don't think heat is the problem.

I have several things connected to this moniter and have never had a problem like this.

Also it goes to pink screen after about a minute of starting up, and the computer is completely froze at that point.

Anyway to test the video care besides just replacing it?

The video card always gets real hot, is that the main thing that can't get hot?

No but it depends how hot the card is getting, 8800gtx were powerful card and also a hot one so if you follow Goldenskulls advice and post your video card temperature we'll know for sure.

Which fan has broken BTW, a case fan? If the video card fan is broken you'll need a new one there's no two ways about it.

As you can see I got a new card. I think it's an upgrade because it is twice the size of the other one :)

Do all the temps look good?

No your chipset/mem controller 'MCH' temperature is 68C which is pretty high, it needs investigating they are usually very cool around 30-40C unless the board is overclocked.

Can you answer my question now? Which fan has broken, your motherboard chipset fan? This would explain the high temperature.

You mean the CPU fan? That one seems to be good at 1900 RPM.

The Rear fan does not seem to be doing much at 600 RPM and the "Front" fan that is on the power supply has been making noises.
So I cleaned that one out.

No next to the cpu should be a smaller heatsink, sometimes it has a fan on sometimes not, the second largest heatsink on the motherboard.

Q on this diagram is the high temp-

    http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dp35dp/sb/CS-032014.htm

When you find it touch with your finger to see how warm it is, @68C it should be almost too hot to touch, make sure it's cleaned of dust.

If it does feel very warm you may want to consider reapplying some thermal paste and improving your case airflow, if not it could be a bad reading. Download the latest version of speedfan and post those temperatures also.

Have you installed an aftermarket CPU heatsink?

EDIT Although the temp is hot I don't think it's the cause of your pink screen but it could cause general instability and memory errors.

I don't know if it is after market.
I got this from my brother who built it a while ago.

Do those temperature readings mean the memory sticks are getting hot?
I felt those and they are a little warm but not very much.

Also I have one side question:

Do you know why my DVI cable does not work anymore?

Ever since I got my new card the screen would turn red start flashing.
So I used the AVI adapter that was included with the card everything is fine now.

    Any ideas?

No, it means the heatsink labelled 'Q' from the diagram I posted is getting hot, the large silver rectangular heatsink under the cpu in your picture:confused

In your picture you have the power supply fan labelled as the gpu fan, the gpu 'graphics processing unit' is on the video card.

Changing your DVI cable is the first step, next is to try the cable on another monitor or TV.

    Yes of course sorry,

That heatsink is not very warm also.
    Weird rolleyes

This new card does not get hot at all and no pink screen so far :)
The old card would get hot right away so the fan on it might not work very well.
It does not make sense that my DVI cable would not work, because it worked with my old card so I know it's not the cable or the moniter.

It looks like my new card has a DVI-I port.

Would that be the reason it does not work with my monitor now?
