I have bought a Pioneer DVR-111D DVD writer and i am unable to get my PC to record anything to it. My PC has recognised the device but doesn't recognise that there is a disc in the drive.

The instructions say it is a DVD+rewritable and i have bought DVD+RW disks but it keeps asking me to insert a disc. I have tried video, music and data but nothing seems to work.

i am at a loss, any help will be highly appreciated

See how you go over at Microsoft. That's if you are running XP.

    Thanks for helping

    Hi jager1,

What burning software are you using?
Look on the DVD+RW disk and see if it says version1 on it?

I recently had a burner that would burn every kind of disk except Sony RW version1.
It just won't recognize that type.

    Bad out.

    Hello Bad_Frogger

    Thanks for the reply.

I have tried both NERO 6 + 7, the disks i have tried using are imation i have tried both DVD -RW and DVD +RW and neither works. The disks do not mention a version.

    Hi jager1,

Can you go into services and make sure your IMAPI and IMAPI helper services
are not disabled? set start up to auto for these services.

Your disks should be fine I have only ever seen the one Sony version1 disk.
So get those services running and try again with Nero.

Let us know how it goes.

PS. does nero see the drive?

    Hi Bad_Frogger

Nero 7 does see the drive. i checked services and i noticed that in my haste to make my PC go a bit faster i seem to have disabled a few things:
    Nvidia driver help
    plug and play
    shell hardware detection

i have set all these to auto and have managed to put a word doc onto the DVD disk and i am currently 26% into burning a movie to disk. hopefully i do not have any trouble at the end but things are looking good.

thanks a lot for you help

    Hi

It didn't work, at the end of the process it said that the wrong disk was in the drive and asked for a cd not a dvd.

So i can write data but not video.

    i am 1/2 way there

    Dang,

Now that all the services are going can you uninstall the drive from device manager,
reboot let windows find it and install fresh.
You proved you could burn to DVD right?
Is it possible the movie is DRM protected?

Nero sees the DVD disk ie. shows capacity of blank disk in window when
you are going to make a Data disk?
So the problem has to be File types/formats, burning selections.

    Bad out.

i have downloaded some things from torrent sites whhich are xvid but as i am using nero 7 ithought it would be ok. maybe i need to use something like golden hawk instead.

I was also able to burn mp3 files to the disk so i am happy it is working.

    Glad you got it sorted,
In the Nero help, there is info about which file types can be burned and for
    what purpose.
There are also, if you look around a bit, apps to help convert from one file type to another.
The great news is your new burner works.
Now you just have to figure out what you can pull off with it.

    Cheers,
    Bad out.
