    I don't get what's so funny? :confused

I generally carry a handgun when I'm hiking in the Hoosier National Forest, ever since my late brother and his (then) small kids were confronted with a rabid dog deep in the woods. . . although he did do pretty good with a stick. Not to mention there are quite a few coyotes there as well. DNR says there are rattlesnakes also, but I've never seen one.

What do mice have to do with a coyote threatning a family pet? I'll contact my cousin in Brown Co. and have her post how it felt when a coyote killed her 10yr old chihuahua and took off with it . . . I don't think she found it funny.

    Oh - this must be about something else . . . silly me . . . rolleyes

Coyotes are not stupid animals and are generally very shy creatures. Here comes the gov. jogging with his entourage and a dog, what do you think a coyote would normally do? I mean this ain't an easy meal coming down the road! My take is the dog initiated a response from a female protecting her pups or was otherwise sick.

I found it appalling that the news reporters took the incident so lightly. Coyotes mean nothing to us except being a nuisance or a drag on my profits if one's a rancher.rolleyes I don't know if you're addressing me in that post Spad, it's called sarcasm and satire.;)

I totally agree with you about the rabid dog, I'd rather have a gun rather than a stick at that point in time.:eek Sorry about the dog too but I'm sure everyone's aware of the danger in that neck of the woods?

Oh, I see what you mean . . . taken in light of the group that was with him in the video I can see the humor. ;) However, it says that was stock footage, thus not footage of the actual day . . . the stock footage was obviously coverage of a special event. I highly doubt that many people run with him or the news media is present every time he goes out.

I am very familier with sarcasm and satire, but I still don't see the basis for it in this situation. Coyotes are not endangered and can indeed be pests - I have nothing against them, but if one acted aggressively toward me or mine I wouldn't hesitate to put it down.

I feel sorry for the coyote, bobcat, and other wild life that find themselves being edged out of their habitat. I'm proud that Indiana has one of the largest tracts of public land east of the mississippi river - if we can just keep the idiots out that want to "develop" it . . . rolleyes It's that kind of "development" that lost my cousin her pet . . . it was taken from her yard in town. The coyote was no doubt sick or injured, and saw an arthritic tiny dog as easy prey . . . understandable and sad - but understanding and empathy wouldn't keep me from saving a pet.

    . . . and I still don't get the mice :-D

oh - what was the commercial you found funny? They are different each time (may explain the mice , , , LOL)

The coyotes have killed a number of pets in my area over the last few years.

Augie, have you ever been stalked by a wild creature? I have been 'stalked' by a Jaguar at the local zoo when shooting pictures. Of course, he was in an enclosed area and was not a threat to me, but was kinda creepy watching how he did it. :-D

Another time, I was mt. bike riding in CA. Stopped to rest, and felt uneasy, heard some odd noises. I then noticed large bushes and small trees moving, in a straight line towards me. Something pretty large was heading my way. I was lucky, CMA on the bike ASAP back to civilization without looking back to see what it was. Predators do sometimes kill humans in the US. GENERALLY, they avoid humans, but if hurt, they may go for a human, or kill near a human.

The TX governor was a bit flippant about it. Perhaps he should have waited and tried to scare the critter off instead of killing it, but, there is no video footage, so you don't know what happened. He should have had his dog on a leash at least.
