    Hello peeps,

Has anyone else tried this yet? I downloaded today and got it to check all my security settings. Seems I am o.k on firewall, patches, spyware and virus check, but it gives my machine a low score on what it calls Threat Centre. Then recommends using Qwik Fix Pro to 'Harden' and add security.

Am a bit concerned that it is just a sophisticated sales tool for Qwik Fix. Can anyone say if these extra threats are serious, and if so are there any freeware options to deal with them?

    Ta and happy geekin'

Tricky888, I don't know whether PixX is good or not, but a lot of these programs and sites are nothing more than a marketing tool.

I would only trust an established and reputable site like GIBSON'S RESEARCH.

The "Shields Up" test among others will soon tell you how effective your firewall is.

Ok I know its beta... but its better get better that the POS  it stands at, at the moment, this app is luring you into thinking your at risk, when a few noteable ommissions in security apps are evident.

    eg.

AntiVirus.... Mmm NO retail McAfee AV ( hence I scored a pittyful 40 of the threatOmeter and am vunerable to all sorts of nastys... *renches DSL out of wall* ) ~ Ching Ching $$££ recomendation opens to purchase Kerio AV package ~

Firewall.... Tells me the Windows Firewall is active.. when Ooops its disabled in services!

Plus take the Firewall attack test with pinch of salt if you are behind router.

Halo's score 40/100..... Nice attempt but must try harder ;)

    Thanks Guys,

useful stuff indeed. Think I'll steer clear of fiddling about in the registry for now, and the Gibson tests tell me i'm pretty much invisible which is comforting! Shame I can't perform the same trick myself! Could come in useful to prevent the human equivalent of intrusions e.g. nutters on the bus/train and other assorted encounters with undesirables. Maybe one day!?
