Pixelation

I am having a MAJOR problem when I download images and the resolution is very low. Does anyone know of any software (free or cost) that I can access which will smooth the image edges and give me a better - larger image to use on overheads?

Not really. Downloading web based images that are small in file size do not really scale very well, when enlarged. Which I'm sure you are quite aware of.
