Plagued by Popups

I had (maybe I still do) an issue with the "System 7-You have a virus and if you download our software it will get rid of it" problem.

It was so bad that I could not run anything. I had to get my System recovery disks out and restor from a previous save.

I thought that it was fixed but for some reason I am getting these "Message from Website... Out of memory at line 4." (see atatchment)

They won't stop. They pop up ALL THE TIME with or without any browser open.

I am about to restor my computer to factory specs and start over.

    Can someone help???

I guess I can't or don't know how to atach a .jpg to my message.

It sounds like you've been infected with malware.

You may be able to do a cleaning of the existing install using Malware Bytes and/or other freeware. For detailed instructions, go to the Malware Forum and click on the "read first" sticky.

Although a full system restore will get rid of malware, it will also get rid of your files, pictures, music and any software you have installed. Given this, be sure to back up your files to a USB drive and be sure you have any software reinstall disks and license codes (Word, Excel, Photoshop, etc.) before doing a System Restore. In addition, be sure to scan the backup drive using Malware Bytes (http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756) before reloading old files on a restored install.

    Hope this helps. :)

    gman863,

Thanks much for the help. I will take your suggestions and apply them to my situation.

Question: If I do a complete 'set to factory settings' on my machine and all the files are wiped out do I disconnect all my devices (printers, DYMO label maker ets) and then plug them in one by one?

Also I have a program called Driver Professional which when you run it it gets all my drivers and puts them in a folder.

Upon redoing my machine and when I plug something in and it does not have a driver do you think that I could "point" the device to that folder and it will install them or would it be better to install from a device website file or cd that came with he device?

This will be the first time I ever trashed everything and started over. A little nervous.....

During the System Restore, you'll need to unplug all USB devices except for the keyboard and mouse. After the PC is restored, plug the devices in one by one. If you have the driver install CD for the device, it's usually the fastest way of loading. If not, let Windows search for the driver online or go to the device mfr's website to download and install the driver.

I've never used Driver Professional. You may be able to back up the folder containing the drivers and reinstall them from the saved folder, but I'm not sure.

    Good luck on the project.
