Platte Media Invoice

Anyone received an 'invoice' from Platte International or Platte Media?

 

What do have there, a possible phishing scam? Why did you post the question?

 

Yes, this one brought an entire office (server and a dozen pcs) to its knees over the last week, downloading 120G of something 'in the background'.

Very sensitive we think perhaps the night porter clicked on something.

Trouble is that the system was NT4 server / Win2k workstations so M.Pollit's instructions needed transposition to effect removal, but it is gone now.

Amazing the number of users that paid up the £50 to ger rid of it reported in his article though.

This wouldn't have happened if I could persuade that organization not to let its users run as administrators!

 

I don't know, I just shovelled it all, kicking and screaming, onto the trash.

It remains to be seen if the promoters (can I really call them that?) will try the debt collection routine for that 'invoice'. This aspect was also mentioned in the Guardian and BBC articles.
