   Is there a way to play .swf files in Windows Media Player? I don't want to use Quicktime and I don't want to use IE or something because I don't have any controls then.

   It's a standalone player as well as a browser plugin WMP doesnt support flash and probably never will... SWF is a vector animation format not a video format.
