Playback of .M4P music files

I know that .m4p files are some type of iTunes music files, but I can't seem to play any of 'em. A friend gave me a flash drive with a bunch of .m4p songs and they play fine on his PC but will not play on mine. I tried installing the Quicktime Alternative and it made no difference; I also have the KLite Mega Codec Pack installed (for general use with video/audio playback) and it apparently does not handle .m4p files as they seem to be 'infected' with DRM. Can we use the somewhat outdated MyFairTunes to remove the DRM? Is there something else out there?

I'm not trying to steal any music here - a friend paid for the music legally and we want to listen to this music here at my house on my PC, but the DRM won't let us do it. I have no plans of copying the music to my PC, we just want to listen to it! :banghead

(freekin' DRM - always a thorn in the side of a multimedia good time)

(NOTE - I do not have iTunes installed on my PC and I'd like to keep it that way - if it means not listening to legal, paid-for music, then so be it - I will NOT install iTunes)

You guys both actually linked to the same thing LOL and portable VLC did not work. The progress indicator moved like the music was playing, but no sound from the speakers. I've been a bit of research, and it appears that there is very little (if any) freeware for DRM removal or playback of DRM music. I did locate some freeware at the UnDRM web site, but these programs seem to be aimed at removing DRM from MP3, WMA, WMV. I'm still going to check 'em out and we'll see what happens....

EDIT - upon reading the details of some of the program at the UnDRM site, it seems that we'd have to remove the DRM on my friends PC, not here at my house where we have the music on a flash drive. It seems that DRM installs a license on the PC where the music was purchased; if this license is not on the PC, removal of DRM is not possible. My friend is here visiting from out-of-state and didn't bring his PC, obviously he isn't going to drag his tower around on vacation and he doesn't have a laptop.... besides, we don't really even want to remove the DRM, we just want to listen to the freekin music!!! :banghead
