trying to play a LEGIT copy of Tears of the Sun on my LG, but the dvd is saying it won't play on a "non modified region 1 player"
is there software or anything that i can use or do that'll make it work?

These only work on region free drives. They only disable the RPC lock in DVD player software, they do not unlock the drive itself.
This http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm will make the DVD appear region free, but it's not free. http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php has modified firmwares that can be used to make a drive itself region free, but at a risk of rendering the drive unuseable.
