Playing VOB on PS3

Luckily I haven't ripped my entire DVD library, I decided to start with one DVD and make sure it works. I ripped a DVD, put the VOB files on a FAT32 hard drive in the Video folder, but my PS3 won't recognize. Windows Media Player doesn't do the VOBs either, it seems, though I have other media players on my computer that do.

Any advice? Do I need to rip into a different format? Do I need to download and install a CODEC (or PS3 equivalent)? Is MG not the correct forum for this question?

I was thinking of converting to a supported file type and I assume there are programs that can rip directly to a supported file type. However, I've seen elsewhere on the net where people say PS3 can play VOB, but I haven't found a tutorial or how-to that explains it well enough that I can follow. Figured I'd give MG a shot as I've found it to be my favorite spot for computer related help and advice.
