I just got a new laptop...for some stupid reason, even though my named user account has lost all admin privlages? Why the hell would that happen?

I have a newer Toshiba with a fingerprint thing, so I thought maybe disabling it was the problem but I have installed and re-installed it, and still no luck.

I can't right-click on the start menu, there is no "run", etc etc. This is silly. And there is no password to log in, so it's not like I'm screwing that up! I can log in as an admin and everything is there, WTF?!?!

    Hi Matt,

I realize that you're probably upset and frustrated when you posted this; however it's a little hard to help you right now because your post is all over the place.

Toshiba, eh? What is the model number? Also when you said: "Fingerprint Thing" this is a bit on the vague side. What is the brand name and the model or series number is the fingerprint thing? What operating system are you running? Since you apparently "can't right-click on the start menu" what is the name of your mouse and is it corded or wireless?

When you bought this "new" laptop, was it actually "used?" Or is the Toshiba "brand new" as in from a store? The reason that I ask this is because since you state in your post that you "just got a new laptop" if it is from a store (or you bought it online); it stands to reason that it must have come with some kind of warrantee. If this is the case; my advice would be to take it back to the store and exchange it for a new one.

Finally, in the future, whenever you list a "New Thread Title" you should try to use a more descriptive title which is relevant to your specific problem; something like "User Account Lost All Admin Privileges." Not "PLEASE help ASAP!" which appears to be vague.

Few people will tell you this outright; but I'll let you in on a little secret here... In many computer-related forums throughout the web, often times folks will skip over posts that are not at all specific with regards to the title like "Need Help FAST!" or Please Help Me Now!" The fact that you posted 5 hours ago and have yet to receive any responses is evidence of this fact...

As Major Attitude states in the “Announcements in Forum - Software” section:

"When starting a new thread asking for support, be sure to be a bit descriptive in your topic. In other words, if you're having a problems with your cd-rom not auto starting, then title your post "My CDROM will not auto start" not something like "Urgent". This gets attention from those who know this area and might have experienced the same problem."

Please do not misunderstand me here; I'm not "criticizing" you or your post. I'm only telling you this because the object in here is to get as many "problem specific" responses and replies as possible. And it stands to reason that the more specific you are in your posted inquiries; the better the odds of finding the "correct" answers become.

    Good Luck!

can you go into control panel > user accounts > and create a new account and give it admin rights, then delete your other one that is giving you problems and just use the one you made? This could be an easy fix unless you just don't want to create a new account.
