Please help c:\windows\system32\vidcnt.exe missing

Hi, can someone please help with a problem.

A friend of mine did some checking for spyware last nite, and seems to have done something wrong. This morning when she put pc on this is what happened. PC keeps saying windows cannot find c:\windows\system32\vidcnt.exe and then switched to the blue screen with the message that it had to close windows to prevent further damage.

How can we fix this? I dont really have a clue about XP. Thank you in advance. She cant get online now, so I am trying to help her by phone.

 

thanks for the reply, i will get her to to that. then report back here. Thing is, she would not even know what to look for,....... TOTAL novice like me. !!!! I am not too bad on 98SE. What exactly is this file that is missing? Oiginally she mentioned something about vidcnt.dll file missing, then later her hubby tried putting pc on and then there was the message i mentioned in my original post.

 

She used CW shredder and Spybot. Perhaps she never quarentined the spyware.... just deleted it? I think did this once and had a similar problem with a messsage comming up, but pc still worked. I think I eventually did msconfig and removed the thing from my start up menu and no message or probs since then. At the moment she is at work, so I will contact her later and get her to do what you suggest. Thanks so very much for the help you people are BRILLIANT !!
