PLEASE HELP!!! Computer running very slow!

Around a week ago my computer started to get a little slow, and it just kept getting worse! Now it's running very slowly, and I've run multiple programs from the internet to analyze it and speed it up, but none of it really worked! I thought it was malware and posted in the malware forum but there is none on my computer. The only scan I did that actually picked up on a problem was the online scan at PCPitstop. It said that my hard drive was transferring at between 10 and 20 MB/s each time i scanned it, and said that it should be at around 65 MB/s. My hard drive is old, and apparently only runs at 5400 rpm, but I don't think that's the problem, as it was running fine before. I've tried everything I can think of, and all of the suggestions the scans gave me, but nothing has worked! So PLEASE help me someone!!!

 

I recently had this problem...i had a maxtor hard drive that was frequently used for about 4-5 years. To make sure it wasn't a virus, i just reformatted (went very slow) and the WinXP installation never finished. So if a sudden breakdown of my HD happened, then maybe your's is going that way too. Anyway, try to create backups just to be safe. Hope it works out

 

Did you post a hijack this log to our malware section, and folow the instructions on the read me first?
If you have. well I too have an old PC that is getting slower and slower. some times all we have to do is buck up and pay up for that upgrade. or live with it till you cant anymore. If a fresh install hasnt done it for you, and the malware section can't help you at all...then Tigerdirect.com, and .ca have some great deals

I followed all the read first instructions, and chaslang said there was none on my computer. I've been trying to avoid a reformat as it's so tedius, but I might have to anyway. Thanks for the input!
