Please Help! D Drive Problems!!!

Hi all...my name is Haley, I have been experiencing a problem with my D Drive. This started today, and for some reason my computer suddenly doesn't recognize any type of CD. I can play DVDs, and information CDs (such as installation cds and such), but no audio cds will even show up as being recognized, nor are blank cds being recognized either. PLEASE HELP. I have no clue a/b this kind of thing. Thank you!!!:confused

First thing to try is the easiest - turn off the PC. Leave for a short while and turn it back on again.

If you are still having trouble. Right click on My Computer and select the properties option by clicking on it. Then select the Hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button. Click on the plus sign next to DVD/CD ROM drives. Then select your DVD drive and then hit the delete key on the keyboard. Say OK at the warning message. When it has done that re-boot the PC and it will re-detect the DVD drive and reload it's drivers. Hopefully your drive should be working again after this.

It seems to have fixed all problems except one - my computer will not play anything on one particular brand of cd-r, nor will it even acknowledge that it is even in the drive. Weird. They are Memorex Black CD-R, and they have always worked until a few days ago. I guess there is a real underlying problem that will soon surface again...but maybe it's just temporary. If you have any other ideas or suggestions, I wll definitely appreciate them. Again, thank you so much!

 

If it is only that brand of CD-R that the drive has taken a dislike too then the easiest solution is to stop using them. If it is all CD-Rs then that is a different matter. :confused

 

Yes, it appears to be that one brand. I tried several different brands, and they all worked fine. I guess this stack of 10 or more blank cds will just have to be given away. rolleyes
