Im doing Applied ICT in college and im creating an E-Book about The information age, im doing a report of Online games and MMO'S. I need to get quotes from forums on what people thing about MMO'S. If you could help could you please answer these questions: :confused

    1. Why do you play MMO'S
    2. What do you like about them (advantages)?
    3. What is not so good (Disadvantages)?
    4. What games do you play?
    5. Why that game over any other?
    6. How long on average a day would you spend on the game?

You do not have to answer all of the questions if you do not have an answer.

I also need a voice clip or video clip for evidence on my E-Book. So if you could record you answers in a voice clip that would be even better. Thanks for your help it is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Dawsy :)

Not going to do the voice clip..I'm too shy LOL
    1. Play to relax and unwind and have fun!
    2. It lets you escape for a couple of hours and forget about everything else...you can chill out, get engrossed in the game and de stress quite nicely..
    3. If it becomes too addictive..and those "couple hours" turn into all night marathons
    4. Second life..and backgammon LOL
    5. Because they're free I don't have to pay for them
    6. 1 hour

I played EverQuest so much back in the day that my GPA dropped to an alarming level. So I quit.

But I missed the MMOs, so I started again a few months ago. (DungeonRunners FTW!) I'll try to answer as best I can.

    1. Sing along, everyone... :-D "Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came...!" Joking aside, the community is a large part of why I went back to MMOs. I missed my guild. I missed having a large number of people who, while they certainly don't know my real name, at least know who I am, and who seem happy to see me when I log in. We help each other out in-game, we listen and let each other vent, we whine, we complain, we cheer each other on, no matter if it's about issues in or outside of the game. I tried several MMOs before I finally decided on the one I'm playing right now. Also, it is a lot of fun.
    2. Relaxing, you can forget about whatever stresses you out for a while. Plus, where else do I get to slay monsters, win gold and glory, the adoration of handsome bards with strong fingers (purrrr!), and still be home in time for dinner?
    3. Can we say "time-sink"? Also, it's very tempting to play my game instead of, say, doing my laundry. I am actually actively cutting back this week, because of other priorities.
    4. Dungeon Runners
    5. Two reasons: 1) It's deliberately geared towards casual players. It's easy to solo your way through, dungeons are small and quests short. 2) The community is easily the best one I've come across in the many MMOs I've tested.
    6. Varies. On weekends, a few hours. On weekday evenings... it depends. Tonight I probably won't play, because my state's Senate and Congress election debates are live on TV tonight. Best I can do is that I play for around 6 hours a week... mostly on weekends.

How badly do you need the voice clip...?

Well if i want to get the top grade i need 6 different sources of evidence/information. Ive now got forums, ive got blogs, ive got websites.
Dw if you cant do a sound clip, im sure i will find one somewhere.

    Thanks for your answers.

Just generally talking now "off the record" what game would you reccomend to me, i havnt really played a proper MMo, only ones like Runescape and text based MMO'S such as Kings of Chaos.

    Thanks

Depends on what you're after... one of the things I like best about DR is that you don't have to pay anything for the game if you don't want to. Instead of a short free trial you get a free account, with no start-up fee and no monthly fees. If you decide you like the game and want to support it you can buy a membership for $5 per month.

Or you can buy the retail box from any game store, and get 6 months of membership for $20, if you want to be smart about it ;)

    1) I don't.
    2) There are advantages?
    3) Enormous time sink, monthly fees being a greedy money grab.
    4) None.
    5) Dial-up
    6) No time at all.

    How's that?

    Speculant The Confused One

    1. Because it allows me to communicate with other people while playing games.

    2. I really like the fact that you can get a free trial for just about any of them, you can see if you like it, and if you don't, then just pick another one (there are craploads upon craploads to choose from)

    3. The good ones cost money, but usually it is worth it. For example, I just bought the game Guild Wars and although it cost money, I can play for free (there are no monthly fees like World of Warcraft). Another big disadvantage is that you (usually) need a fast internet connection to play. And, if the MMO you happen to be playing is more unpopular, it will be less fun because there will be less people playing. On the other end of the scale, if there are too many people playing, it can cause catastrophic lag.

    4. Guild Wars, I tried the free trial of World of Warcraft but didn't really like it, Runescape, and although I don't know if you could classify this as a MMO, I quite frequently play Starcraft (although less and less now in anticipation of the upcoming Starcraft 2).

    5. Guild Wars over any other because it's more advanced than some free ones and you also only have to pay once.

    6. Depends on the day and the amount of other stuff I have to do (job, homework, school, etc.). On average I'd say around 2-3 hours.

If you really want it I can upload a voice clip tomorrow of me saying the above

That would be great if you could, but dont feel obliged if you dont want to.

    1. I don't anymore but I used to. I played because I was good at them. It was fun to be recognized as a good player. And the games themselves were a lot of fun too.
    2. They were a lot of fun. I played City of Heroes and World of Warcraft for a few years. I enjoyed playing with other people who shared common interests in advancing in a video game. I played the games ultimately for Player vs. Player(PvP) where the players can test their skill and character build against other players. It was fun and competitive. I also still play CounterStrike Source for the same reason. It's a lot of fun and I consider myself to be a really good player, advancing my skill against other good players.
    3. The disadvantages are obvious if you ever played an MMO. They can be extremely time consuming and a huge waste of time when we snap back into reality and realize how long we spent playing the video game. The hours I spent on online video games dwarfs the time spent on just about anything else i have ever done. If I studied my field as much as i played MMO's I would probably have my CCNP by now making $80,000/year.
    4. I played City of Heroes and World of Warcraft. Briefly played Start Wars Galaxies. I also still play CounterStrike Source.
    5. I played CoH for 2 years. I met a lot of great people and quite a few not so great people. That was 4 years ago now and I still keep in contact with some of the people I met. WoW for about a year with the same people. I played because I was good and the people I played with were just as good and dedicated to advancing the skill as I was.
    6. Average day I would spend at LEAST 5 hours playing either of the said games.

    1. Why do you play MMO'S

I enjoy the character development, world exploration as well as the chance to make social connections inside the game that sometimes even turn into real friendships.

    2. What do you like about them (advantages)?

Escape from reality if only for a little bit and a chance to play a game with your friends no matter where they are in the world.

    3. What is not so good (Disadvantages)?

Due to the typical MMO having a monthly fee, many of them are designed to make the character development drag out as long as possible and still keep people paying. Makes them more boring than they need to be.

    4. What games do you play?

Right now: "Lord of the Rings Online", "Warhammer Online" and occasionally "A Tale in the Desert" and "EVE Online".

    5. Why that game over any other?

I enjoy "Lord of the Rings Online" for the wonderfully developed world and the feeling really pulls you into the world. "Warhammer Online" is all about Realm vs. Realm combat, two different groups of players fighting over a castle. It is still early and their are issues, but the potential is great.

    6. How long on average a day would you spend on the game?

I'm probably below the average, playing maybe 1 or 2 hours on a typical night but I can go weeks without playing at all.

    1. Why do you play MMO'S
Nothing is more fun then banding up with a bunch of other people from around the world to take down one common enemy

    2. What do you like about them (advantages)?
Lots of people, its very social. The game never ends, you can just keep playing. Its a living breathing world that changes while your not there so its not always the same experience
    3. What is not so good (Disadvantages)?
    Time consuming >.<
    4. What games do you play?
WoW, Guild Wars,EVE and soon WAR Onilne

    5. Why that game over any other?
Specifically WoW, because there are so many people that play it and i think its just a blast

    6. How long on average a day would you spend on the game?
used to be 8+ hours a day, then i got a job... then i moved to Hungary, so im down to like 3-4. But if i could i would play more
