    Greetings all...

I recently upgraded my computer because it was shutting down all the time (then completely lost all power) reason was the power supply connection and the motherboard. I replaced the lot...

I now have a AMD 64 3000, asus K8N deluxe M/B and 1 gig ram all in a new 500watt box. every thing was working wonderful until last night and the problem has returned. i'm not happy! I have run the latest anti-virus and adware.

OS is win XP pro service pack 1

power supply is a clipper pro swithching power supply model atx 500 pentium 4 500 watt

Now the power supply won't start!!!!!!!!!

The LED on motherboard is lit but front power switch won't start supply to the M/B (I do hear a click coming from the power supply tho')

what can I do???? please please please help someone....

So you have a new board and PSU and still have the problem, correct?

Yes... the only remaining original items are HHD and mouse/keyboard.

Do you have any other hardware installed that could be causing this problem?

    G'day...

no I have uninstalled and have just the minimum running on the computer... hoping to find out what was causing it but it makes no difference.

If you have a new Mainboard and PSU with minimum hardware, then the only thing I can think of that would be causing this problem would be the connection to the board. Have you checked your Power Switch, Reset Switch, Power LED, wires to make sure there on correctly?

What is the EXACT problem? Does it just not turn on? or does it come on and then power off? or does it seem like a short in the switch?

    well...

it was runnign ok, but then started to turn it self off (completely unexpectedly) this could happen in 30 seconds, 5 minutes or 2 hours...

I would have to remove the 240 volt power lead, leave it for 30 seconds or so the power back up.

now! it won't even turn on. but all connections to the board are in the right place and firmly set in.

there is an LED on the motherboard which glows green and the power goes to the optical mouse and keyboard. the LAN also shows it's connected.

Check on the back of the PSU, Make sure its set at 110.

I guess you use 110 in Australia

Oh ok, I wasnt sure of this.

Is your CPU fan fast enough to keep the CPU cool enough as this could cause it to shut down. Also, check in the BIOS for the temperatures and make sure thats not what is causing this machine to shut down.

all temps are in range... cpu temps and voltages recorded as:

    cpu temp - 94 to 114 degrees F
    motherboard - 96 to 102 degrees F
    voltages -
    +12v rail is 11.712 to 11.904
    +5v rail is 5.026 to 5.053
    +3.5v rail is 3.232 to 3.248
    Vcore is 1.536 to 1.552

remember that sometimes the computer shuts down seconds after booting ... hardly time to warm up! other times it might stay up for 2 hours. that was until it wouldn't start at all!

Unless its something to do with the HDD, I have no clue then.
