I have a situation here that's been bothering me for some time. I get that bubble "Network cable unplugged" at random intervals. I would then pickup connection after a couple of seconds. It happens in bursts, anytime of day, and goes away for a while. Not sure what is triggering it.

I looked at my event viewer, and came across an error that stated:
    EventID: 101
    Source: m4cxw2k3
Description: Driver has encountered an internal error
Then an event stating that it reconnected.
    Over and over and over.

I thought my on board one was dying, so went out and bought a PCI NIC and installed it using the latest drivers. That did not work. My other PCs on the network does not suffer from this so maybe I can rule out the router (D-link gaming router DGL-4300). I also turned off the wireless function(didnt help)

I had some virus attacks in the past, and maybe there are some stuff left...
Here is my Hijack this log:

    update:
not sure if it has anything to do with this, but right after the event where it tells me that the driver encountered an error, it tells me:

    Source: m4cxw2k3
    Event: 117
    Description: Downshift Detected

Not sure if this will help but have you just tried reinstalling the driver? Or even looking for the most updated driver?

You can live without the ALCMTR.EXE, it's an event monitor from realtek. Not really a bad one, and I wouldn't imagine that would be the cause. I am no HJT pro but that log looks pretty good actually. I have had calls from 2 different friends in the last 2 days complaining about the same problem you are having.
Coincidence? I thought it might have been a ZoneAlarm update causing issues but only couldn't confirm/deny that one of them was using it (a language problem with the person in question)
One of them is still complaining. I gave them a working NIC and got them to change to it instead of using the usb from their cable modem. (what you didi)

The other used system restore and is okay now, so I think there has been some driver or application update somewhere but where?
Sorry I haven't been any help but,
let me know if you solve it.

I am also suffering from the same problem with m4cxw2k3 with event id 101. I also suffer from intermittent network dropouts. I am not running zone alarm. I am running Norton internet security 2007. The other thing that I have recently done was to install a D-Link DGE-530T giga express network card. I am using it with a Netgear GS108 giga switch. I say this as the gaming router mentioned below by another user also has a built in giga switch.

    any help would be appreciated.

I have just checked one of my other computers also with a recently installed D-Link DGE-530T. Surprise surprise this computer is also showing an error with m4cxw2k3 event id 101. This computer has no virus protection or any firewall installed. The only common element between the two is the recent installation of the DGE-530T.

Since my last post I have updated the D-Link DGE-530T 2005 driver which had no affect. Next I used the Marvell Yukon 2007 drivers from http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=103&pId=3

They installed great only now instead of m4cxw2k3 event 101 now I get yukonwxp with the same event code of 101 ! strange problem.

The problem seems to be the network cards themselves. Replace them with a different type and the problems go away. Incidentally the two card I have were brand new and purchased at the same time. NOT GOOD.
