Please help, i'm an amateur!!

Hi peeps, Hopefully someone can help. I've had to re-install windows on my laptop (not the one i'm using) and it appears to have lost the drivers for my sound, PCI modem, Ethernet and Network controllers.

How do i find out what drivers i need?

What is the make and model of the laptop (EX dell inspiron 4700, Sony Viao 475n, etc.) Information I am asking for should be on the laptop somewhere, often on the underside or bottom.

Hi

Most likely you will need to install the chipset drivers for the motherboard then possibly the ethernet driver if its onboard ethernet.

Best or easiest ways to work out what you need are:

1. Is your PC a bought one like DELL, HP etc if so what model? with that you can goto the makers support site and download the necassary drivers.

2. If home build then whats the motherboard make and model? again with this info you can goto the makers site and look up your motherboard and download the drivers you need.

But Chipset drivers are the first ones you need as they allow other devices to be recognised correctly... one application that will help find out info about your PC is Everest Free

Like Halo said, start with the chipset drivers, and then go from there!
