Okay, this is a shot in the dark here, but I'd love everyone's thoughts.

I have an HP laptop. I've sent it in to them to get fixed twice for this problem and they haven't yet fixed it properly.

    Here's the problem:

The "pin" that the Adapter plugs into in the back of my laptop must be having some problems, or perhaps it is whatever the pin is connected to internally. When I plug the AC Adapter into it, sometimes it'll make a connection, thus allowing me to turn on my laptop, sometimes it won't (I have to move the adapter piece around a lot when this happens to get it to just the right spot), and sometimes when it is working just fine, my computer will just power down because of this connection problem. Also, it is not making a good connection because it will not charge the battery.

I have bought a new adapter thinking maybe that was the problem, but it wasn't because it did the same thing with that one, and I also tried a new battery, but again, it wasn't the battery - it is something with the pin, or something internally back there.

Any thoughts as to what could be going on would be extremely appreciated.

    Thanks all!

i had that exact same problem on my thinkpad. what i did was just buy a coaxial power plug and solder it onto the motherboard in the old ones place

Well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. Unfortunately, I'm not hardware literate when it comes to my laptop, and I don't own a soldering gun... I wouldn't even know where the motherboard is anyway. Any tips on how I can do this or who to ask... etc? Thanks so much.

well, essentially, what you have now is a coaxial plug, you can get a replacment kind of thing at radio shack. if you have any tech literate friends, ask them to do it. id be happy to explain to them further
