:crySorry peeps, i need a bit of advice!

My computer (Asus x58) will let me log on and then when i go to click on the IE or any other button freezes and goes to the timer and does't do anything. I cant click on any buttons and its driving me mad. I can start it in safe mode with networking and i have tried to reset the computer back to a safe time as some of the posts have suggested but now im in a realm of unease as thats where my computer knowledge (and possibly spelling ability) end!

    Please help xxx

Are you saying that you can boot into safe mode? Do things work then?

Thanks Tim, yes everything is fine in safe mode... i am on the internet and everything! its just when it reboots normally it goes wrong with the spinny circle thing and never does anything. The 1st thing you hover over just gets a box around it and its game over! I can open word and excell in safe mode (i don't know if thats normal)

    Thanks again!

No kisses as it tells me off!

Well, the first thing you may want to do is to check for malware. You can do most of the requested scans in safe mode. Just follow these instructions and once you have gathered the requested logs, start a thread in the malware forum and attach your logs.

    Thank you

I have done a AVG virus scan and Super Anti Spyware and all it picked up was loads of adware (about 700)! I then rebooted and it was still like it! I had a worm (sounds so wrong typing that) previously and i could not log onto any spyware or virus websites and i have just checked ans it all seems ok!

Should i just throw it out of the window!!!

We also want you to run MBAM ( MalwareBytesAntimalware) as well as ComboFix. Then so we can see what is happening in your system, we ask that you download MGTools to your C: drive and run it. It will also produce a log at C:\MGLogs.zip. This is all part of the Read and Run First instructions.

Once you have those logs, start a thread in malware and attach them to your post. I can then take a look and see if there is something (s) that may be causing your issues.

Sorry, just found something else out! Left my computer for 10 minutes and the screensaver came on but said it couldn't run it because my sound/video card was not working!

    Does this mean anything?

It may be related to your issues. What OS are you using? XP, Vista, Win7? Do you have your installation disc?

Have you backed up all your important data and files? Did you save your assignment? Do you have your installation disc?

Probably would be a good idea to run the recovery disc as long as you have backed up your data to a cd or thumb drive as the recovery disc will no doubt set it back to factory condition. Then you can use the drivers disc to fix any issues with sound or video drivers.

This sounds like a complete idiot (as my newly found logo states) but do i just put disc in an reboot or do it in safe mode or what!!!

I am not certain how your recovery disc works, but you probably need to boot and go into the bios, ( could be F2 or F12? ) and set the CD drive as first boot device. Then put in the disc and reboot. That should boot you to the disc where you should have an option to do a recovery.

Well Tim, two and a half hours of recovering, inserting, rebooting and one VERY large glass of wine, I am back up and running.
I would like to thank you sooooo much for your help. I will be recomending this site to anyone who even mentions a computer problem! You have been wonderful!

You truly are a star ;-x
