Basically the problem is that I cant see anything when i turn on the pc. As in nothing shows up, the monitor wont even turn on - it stays on standby. The computer sounds like its working normally, everything runs and there are no bios beeps. But everything behaves as if the computer is still off. The monitor dosnt even recognise the cpu is on and the mouse (optical) dosnt glow.
So i pulled out my old pc (that works) and chucked in the parts of the problematic one, one at a time. I tested the Graphics card, RAM, Hard drive, took away all the extras (modem, firewire PCI and TV tuner). And the parts work fine when i tested them out on my other pc. So basically i havnt tested the cpu/ motherboard. It was working fine and suddenly one day i got a blue screen and then it would start but cant see anything - not even the starting stuff about the drives and press DEL to enter setup.

Can anyone please give me some suggestions, i know some basic knowledge so i can change the motherboard if you guys think i should, because this computer had some other whacky problem which was fixed by swapping the RAM's. :S I have no idea why but when i swapped the rams both worked, as opposed to only one working.

Anyway, i would really appreciate it if you guys could take the time to give me a few suggestions.
    thanks in advance

Can you try a different monitor at all?

It sounds like your motherboard or maybe the power supply are failing. 90% that it's the motherboard; CPU's just don't fail that often, and your symptoms don't really sound like anything but the motherboard. With the PC powered down and unplugged from the wall, scan the motherboard for anything strange: 'popped' capacitors (they should be PERFECTLY flat on top; if they're even slightly bowed or there's crud leaking out of 'em they're shot); look at your BIOS chip. They often have foil stickers on 'em. If the sticker looks warped, faded, bubbled up, or looks like it's peeling off, you probably have a burnt BIOS chip.... good luck! Hopefully your MB is still under warranty and you can get it replaced via factory RMA.

    Welcome to MajorGeeks :major

You could also try hooking up the PSU from the Athlon PC to the 'flakey' PC to see if that helps....

mcadam: the monitor is fine, i checked with the other computer.

hopperdave2000: you said pretty much wat i was thinking, i will take a look at the mother board. Though im not exactly sure wat to look for, im going to go with stuff thats popped !?
I doubt the PSU is a problem as it blew up last yr and was replaced but i will check it with the working one anyway.
Hopefully its just the motherboard - i never put a computer together, so i wanna get a new one and put all the bit it ;)
i think thers about 1 month left on the 3yr warranty :|
neway thanks a lot, i will go to some testing!!!

I have a question. Did you try the problem PC with just the necessities plugged into it?
    Mouse
    Keyboard
    Monitor

And make sure they are different mouse, keyboard (As you tried a different monitor). I had a bad keyboard do this once. It didn't give me any bios errors or anything. Just a thought.

Also, I had a bad USB device give me a similar issue like this before.

no i had everything checked out on my other ps to make sure the problem is in the pc- case only.
Well i convinced my supplier to take it back and repair.
He says that warranty on the computers are only a yr! apparently thats standard because i bought an entire computer from him not just a mobo :S. Sounded like he was trying to rip me off, so i argued why do they have a 3yr warranty on the mobo and he said he will have to send it back to china (to ASUS) cos it was an outdated mobo.
I didnt want to waste anymore money so i sent it back.
Hopefully i get replaced with a newer model :D or atleast a working same model.
Thanks for all your help guys

I returned a mobo to Asus awhile ago, and it was a model that had been discontinued, so they sent me a different model, a NEW model that was WAY better than the board I sent in for replacement! :D So, if your mobo is older, the same may happen to you too ;)

China?!?!?! Asus has a US headquarters in San Jose or Fremont, CA.... I've done RMA's with Asus before, expect to wait about 6 weeks from the time you ship out your old board 'til you receive the new one.....
