Please Help me sound better.

I have a dell running 64 bit running vista home premium. Got new speakers Logitech 5.1. I think model # is X-530. When I download music and play it back it sounds like poopy caca. Several people (probably dummer than me) have messed with settings so I need help from the beginning to the end. Basically I need someone to explain it to me like I’m a 2 yr. old. When I click on the sound devices speakers it still says Realtek High Def. audio working. I know NOTHING (actually less) and don’t have a clue what to do literally from the get go.

Ok is this enough info? Too much info? Can anyone help me make my music sound better as that is my #1 reason for having computer. Thank you in advance. And sorry to be clueless (seriously, totally). Oh yeah and I am pretty (kinda) sure that the sound card is Realtek High Definition Audio. (I think). :-o

Ok well to utilise the High Def side of things you have to be using an Optical cable to your speakers, if your not and your just using 3.5mm stereo jacks then you'll only be using analog.

So can you actually hear any sound AT ALL out of them??

 

Check your sound card withh different speakers, too if its the sound card or the speakers, if its the speakers, check all the cables and make sure there are no slices or breaks and that all the connectors make full contact and if all thats fine, check to se if you ahve andthing magnetic laying around the speakers (i would have to be kinda big), and of course signal intereference from cell phones, microwaves and other wireless devices can have an impact too. if none of this helps then you probably just have defective speakers.

Wow that took forever. I had given up. Everything is hooked up and tight and I have tried 2 different sets of speakers. I think Drizzles is probably right about me needing that cable. So Drizzles. Hook me up. What do I need, what do I do and how do I do it? I don't ask for much do I?

 

Oh oops. Yes I have fantastic sound. These speakers are great. That is until I download the song and try to play it back. Then it sounds like playing a scratched up record with a really old stylus. Wait, how old are you? You might not even know what a record is. Ha Ha.

 

i looked up on logitechs site, and i found the X-540 which im assuming is close and it doesnt look like there high def speakers and the optic cable is only if your useing hi def sound on a high def speaker set up

and dont forget you could just ahve a bad sound card i dont know the exact circumstances of your situation but if diff speakers arnt working thats an option

and if its only songs that sound like crap, try different songs from different sources on different media players. could just have a bad song.

 

I just don't know. I feel like it has something to do with settings. Because it was sounding fine but computer got messed with by yes a man and now its every song I try to play back after download. Also when I go into the system to speakers and click on properties its not showing these speakers. I can't be sure what speakers it is showing but it says manufactured by microsoft. It shows everything working though so I just don't know. ????? I R CONFUSED.

 

That sounds like a driver issue, Make sure you download the correct driver for your OS. 64-bit OS's tend to not work with 32-bit drivers/programs all the time

 

I did a driver update and it says I am up to date with the latest. Is that what you mean or do I need to do something else? I really am computer illiterate. Hey I was born in the 60's. Thats my excuse and Im stickin to it.

 

well There are two types of the driver one for a 64-bit OS (thats what you have)
and one for a 32-bit OS(this will not work for you) and since 32-bit is more common among the consumer base, you have to amke sure you got and select the 64-bit version from the site, or on the CD if they included it.

Did I mention I was blonde? Now I am really confused. The only thing that will even open for me on the realtek site is linux. Should I do that? Cuz I sure as hell got lost. I am so confused. your answers seem so simple but when I get there I see that it is most definitely not simple to a non geek. I wish I was a geek. Ugh!! SI just says Realtek HD audio driver. It does not say if it is 32 or 64. I don't even know what the dang 64 is to be quite honest but I know I don't like it (I think). Or do I? You tell me cuz I DUNNO???

Thats usually the case lol ... so do you have a Sound Blaster X-Fi or a Realtek High Def?

 

Realtek HD. But I like the sound of the other one much better.

Lol you're definitely a lively one DeeAnn ... And yes "we" as you put it are allowed to E-mail you HOWEVER never put your E-mail on a public post. There are programs that automatically peruse webpages and, find E-mails and copy them down. This is one way you will get alot of SPAM E-mail.
