Hey, I am new here and admittedly not very computer literate. My problem is I have a DVD RW that has data on it that I cannot open. When I use Media Player it refers to A WTC File and will not open it. I know there is data on the disk. It is very important that I retrieve this information. Any ideas? The disk was burned from another computer. I know I have not listed everything, I just need help.

The .WTC file extension identifies Watertec Encrypted Database files. Watertec was developed by Watertite as a water management and data monitoring application to be used in conjunction with sensory equipment. WTC files are proprietary and to open them you will need to install Watertite's software.

not sure what you mean by data....is it a movie? if not why are you using media player to open it? do you have the correct video codecs to play it?

Yes it is video recording. The recording was made with the use of a webcam.

that might not be the right direction...
hmm...can u access the disk in explorer (windows, not internet) and right click your dvd drive, and choose explore, what file(s) are on there, and what type are they? you may need to change your view to details to get that info.

Like I said, not very literate. How do I get to explorer w/o the internet?

I can access the disk the way you described, but when I click on explore it takes me to the same screen as when I put the disk in. What about changing the view. The file says I believe its a UDF. Any ideas. Short of sending this to the police lab. It is very important. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Appreciate the help. The disk was given to me by a legal user of Watertec. I could use there computer to play it, only problem is that they are 9 hours away from my location. Thanks, if you all have any other advice let me know.

I told you this was the case in Post #2 ;)

It doesn't matter what the file contained - movie, data or otherwise. The fact of the matter is you won't access it without the necessary software.

Slim to nothing - which is why I mentioned it immediately - so yall didn't go troubleshooting ;)

I guess you could email it to the legal Watertec user and have him play it and show you it via a webcam?
