Hey everyone! I just built my first pc!! everything went really well when i built it and the computer is running really well! I just have one fear, this problem does not happen all the time but every once in a while when I power up my pc it turns on for a second then turns off for a split second and then turns back on and boots up without any problems, this happens without me having to push the power button again at all, I just push it once to turn on the pc. Is this a problem? should i be concerned? I use this pc for hours a day without any problems what so ever. I hope its nothing serious! Thank you all for your replies ahead of time!

I have the same thing, I am not absolutely sure but i suspect it is the Mobo resetting itself.

My PC has shown no ill effects from it.

thanks for your replies so far guys! I have checked and made sure that everything is plugged in and it definately is. I have even unplugged everything and plugged it back in one connection at a time and the computer works just fine. BILLMC what kind of mobo do you have? I have the Gigabyte ep45-ud3p after you mentioning the mobo resetting itself, I think you may be right! what could be causing this? I hope there are no ill effects from it. it would be a shame that the computer starts having problems after a few months or so.

Huh, that is odd? Overclocking? Large enough PSU? What about the circuit providing power to your computer? Is it sharing with anything else?

Well, in my case, I gave to my wife an OLD IBM and that one do that all the time... I use it some times and always works well; but, if someone have a solution for this -annoying thing- welcome!!!;)

    Hi Summer,

That's new one on me. It should not be possible with the circuits involved. Do you perhaps have the BIOS setup set for immediate off when the button is pressed? If you do then try it with the 4 second delay when the button is pressed to turn off. Worth a try.

    Good Luck, Jim

Same here it does it one in maybe 30-50 times I power on but it always starts and I haven't worried about it.

Have you done all the "baseline checks" since you have built it?

EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 to check all the temps and volts.

MemTest 4.0 to check that the RAM is running fine.

OCCT 3.1.0 for a 10-15min stress run and give you an insight into what you might expect for "maximum" loading.

I always run these from time to time to make sure everything is fine.

Thanks again everyone for your replies!! Bold eagle I have indeed run some tests....but the only real test I have done is a temperature test just to make sure I installed everything correctly, like the cpu fan and thermal paste, all of my temps are really cool with the hottest component being my graphics card at 47 degrees celcius. My mainboard is at 23 degrees and cpu is at 29, 28, 33, and 32 degrees for each core these temps are taken while the computer is idle and not working. When I play a game like crysis the temps rise a little bit with the hottest being my graphics card at 55 degrees celcius. To me these temperatures seem to be great! What do you guys think? Also, jlphlp I do in fact have the BIOS set so that when you push the power button the cpu immediately turns off, I will change it so that it takes four seconds for it to turn off and see if that helps. I'll also do a memory test to make sure everything is ok. Also, Bill you have an awesome mobo! Again, thank you all so much for your help!

Very good temp ranges there, next time:
    Mobo: 23
    CPU1:29
    CPU2:28
    GPU:47

Is very informative in a nice little summary :D.

They are excellent load temps. I'm getting a bit anxious at the moment as were hitting summer and GPU can hit 92 if I give it a stress test and that after removing the Video Card HS and applying a decent TIM.
