Hi there , hoping someone can help with this :)
I am trying to use bluescreenview to figure out what is causing my system to crash. The problem is, I cannot record any dump files even though i think i have all the settings correct.
    1) in advanced system settings , on hte advanced tab , i have checked the box to write a small memory dump to %SystemRoot%\Minidump
2)I have set my paging file size to allow windows to manage , which is currently 8 GB.
but when i go o C:\windows\minidump there is nothing there after several crashes.
Unfortunately my system seems to be crashing on certain flash media (i think) (youtube - sometimes , random webpages with video - sometimes , my google plus profile - always , media player lite when playing .mkv files - sometimes .....)
i used LAST known good config to restore it and it seemed t be working fine until i had a windows update , and immediately thereafter it started crashing again..... each time i restore it , it is fine for a while but it seems as soon as windows updates i start getting problems again ...
    My windows is genuine
I use several anti virus , malware , spyware , progs so it is not a virus/malware etc.
    my specs are as follows
    ASUS G73JH
    intel i7 CPU 720QM : 2.66 GHz
    DDR3 1066/1333 MHz 8GB
    ATI Mobility™ Radeon® HD 5870, 1G GDDR5 VRAM
    GEnuine windows 7 64bit sp1

    SO i guess i have 2 questions
    1) any idea what could be causing hte crashes
2)how do i get the dumps to work so that i can figure out ques 1) !

Can't help much with the Windows 7 aspect but this:
can be a cause of problems. If you have more than one real time anti-virus running you should pick one and uninstall the other(s). Having "several" security applications in place does not completely remove the possibility of a malware infection.

Some one will be along to help you set Windows 7 to create the mini-dumps on a BSOD event.

Do you have system failure configured as depicted?

    thanks for the reply !

I use only avast as a real time antivirus (I have turned off defender) , but i also periodically use Malawarebytes , Spybot and Adaware to perform one-off scans.

i don`t think they are the problem.

    Hi,

Since you can't get logs to generate - uncheck the "Automatic Restart" box and write down the technical information for others to review here :)

    Example:

Note: Sometimes the information from the very top and very bottom red boxes are not shown.

Hi thisisu , unfortunately i can`t get to this bluscreen either !
the screen freezes on crashing and the only way to reboot is holding down the power key for several seconds .... any advice ?

Try to run DriverView (x64) on it, set it to hide Microsoft and Windows files and use only the name, product name, modified date and filename columns. Take a screenshot and attach it please.

Check the dump requirements at Caliban's site. Ensure the paging file is on the System drive. Check also for C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP.

    Thanks Satrow,

Yes i have the system recovery/crash dumps set up as described , I think when the system crashes it does not even have time to create the memory dump (there is nothing in C:\windows\minidump and nothing in event logs) and i do not get BSOD just a completely locked/frozen/hanging screen which includes all keyboard buttons(alt-ctrl-del) and any external lights etc . this is recoverable only byhard reset (power button) which takes me to the "windows reboot screen " listing options for safemode or normal startup . I can start it normally and run it anywhere between an hour and a day before it crashes again.

I would like to get the memory dumps working for future REF but as far as the drivers go i am going to hold off posting them as i have just changed a few (ASUS machine which seems to have a problem with CREATIVE sound drivers according to some steam users , so i have completely removed ... no crashes so far so maybe i have fixed hte issue, fingers crossed !!)

anyway i will report back soon . please anyone let me know if you can help me get the crash dumps working .... thansk !

Driverview will show any 3rd party drivers like Creative - also from ASUS (who have several 'utility' drivers that can, and do, cause BSOD's in Windows 7). Try to uninstall all ASUS stuff, reinstall them from the ASUS site - drivers only - no tweaking, software boosters, virtual drives, etc.
