Recently we did a clean of active directory, and from that point, users here and there, in no pattern at all are getting reference memory errors. They dont get them on the same application, and most resolve when I recreate the user profile.

I had a user who is trying to open an Excel file, all other files open fine, but this one file gives the following error :-

The instruction at '0x301f0dd1' referenced memory at '0x0000002c'.
The memory could not be read.
Click OK to terminate the program.

Now, when other people were opening the file it worked fine.

He had this problem on 2 pc's that he used, and 2 others that were used by other people.

I recreated the profile first on the users laptop, and then opened the file, the fine opened no problem.

I recreted the profile on another users laptop, then he could open the file no proplem.

Then I recreated the profile on the origional users Desktop machine, and he could open the file no problem.... ONCE.

He closed the file and opened it again and the error returned.
It has also now returned on his laptop.

Ive re-installed Office 2000 but the problem has not gone away.
It doesnt happen with any other excel file on his system, and myself and many other users can open the file no problem on our machines.

My whole Support group have not been able to offer any suggestions.

Please help!

I had a problem similar to this with one of my users.. the file was 7.3 MB in size.

I updated her video drivers and added more RAM to her machine and so far she's had no issues.

Her machine would pop up general protection faults on only that one file.

I'll give it a try, its happeningon more than one machine but i'll see what happens.

Just to update.
The laptop is a different Spec from the Desktop.

I recreated the users profile on the laptop and logged in as him.
I then accessed the file from the server and the file opened no problem.

I recreated the users profile on the desktop, and logged in as him.
I then accessed the file form the server only to get the reference memory error again.

I went back to the laptop to check it out, and the error is now also back on the laptop.
