I really hope sumone can help iv had enough of pc troubles now.

Ok i built my son's pc all new bits.

    Windows Xp
    Motherboard Abit AN52 nforce 520
Drivers with cd was an realtek HD

installed everything i needed to from Cd with MB Realtek audio driver, Lan driver. Worked fine,. Installed all rest of his bits n bobs ie Wireless network card vido drivers, ghost recon 2 which i added from the disk teamspeak, psyxe driver directx 10 i think it was...and so on. since installing that game tho thats wen i lost sound.

:confused so i uninstalled them, rebooted reinstalled went into control panel sound devices showing no Device couldnt do anything all was grey. So before that, what i knew to my knowledge i went and did a whole Formatt including cmos reset.

After doing that and full partition formatt (not quick) reinstalled windows bla bla...i went into device manager and the sound and audio was all in there already with no exclamations. only on bus drivers n video ect..ect. So i carryed on and installed everything i needed to just the chip set, and audio drivers...Rebooted after everyone still nothing. i have gone back into device manager and tryed to remove them from there but no option too.. i have unstalled them from Add and remove then sayed failure to remove. iv downloaded drivers from net still same.

yes its started in the administrative tools...windows Audio ???

yes audio is enabled in bios.

    No speaker icon

No sound card just on board sound.

From what iv been reading on some of the others could it be a registry problem. iv tryed everything possibly know

    PLEASE HELP :cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry

just a silly questions but the prongs on the back of the plate for the MB ports ect if one touches the MB panels could that possibly short it??? but not 100 sure it was or has touched it. anyways just took MB out and made sure they arnt..

I'm not sure I followed all that. You did a full format and OS reinstall. You installed all your drivers.
Then you removed your audio drivers. Now that's where I'm confused.
What was the reason? They didn't install properly and you still didn't have sound or a volume icon.
    Is that right?
The chipset must br installed before installing the audio. If you didn't do this, in that order, that could be your problem. (or it is just the Realtek driver refusing to co-operate)

Try this, (make a Restore Point, first)
    1) Uninstall Realtek High Definition Audio Driver through Add/Remove Programs (if it's installed but not working)
    2) In Device Manager, remove the High Definition audio device (or the unknown device, if there is one) under Sound, Video & Game controllers.
    3) Go into Device Manager>System, right click the UAA Hi-Def Bus driver.
Disable the device and then uninstall it. (Do not re-boot yet)
    KB888111
In Add/Remove Programs, look for the KB888111 update and uninstall it.
If you install, remove, and then re-install this update, the update is no longer listed in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Therefore, you cannot remove this update from your computer. To work around this problem, follow these steps.
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB888111 (may be in SP3)
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes, and then exit Registry Editor.
Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.

Reboot, but don't let Windows install the driver.

Install your driver, then reboot, again.

This is the Abit driver for the sound on your board Realtek High Definition Audio Driver for Window 2000/XP/2003/64bit

yes i did install the chipset before ;)
then drivers. but all i have done on the pc today is installed chipset again and realtek. before i did this full reinstall of windows it did work then didnt.

    it is Xp SP3

ok the error msg i get when removing realtek drivers from add n remove programs is .....

Realtek HD audio device remove failure..

    i click on OK
then it carrys on and says finished un-installing realtek audio device.

In device manager sound and audio section...all there is all ok no exclamations marks or just a speaker at the side of them.

    AUDIO CODECS
    LEGACY AUDIO DRIVERS
    LEGACY VIDEOM CAPTUR DEVICES
    MEDIA CONTROL DEVICES
    VIDEO CODECS.

the only exclamations i have is my graphics card which i have not yet installed rivers, and my pci which is my wireless network card. yet again not installed drivers.

    THATS IT.

iv looked in system, and i cannot see no UAA Hi-def bus driver i looked earlier from some of other post's

nothing in regedit how u typed it it...

all i have in my add n remove rograms is my lan drivers. notihing else.

does the rest of the process u explained still any good ?

ok i know im a women but to me if im to look for what u typed, then i dont see anything at all. i feel like im missing something.

sorry i may b missing something but iv done it all and checked twice

I haven't tried this one, but it should work to remove the drivers.
    1. Reboot in Safe Mode
    2. Open Device Manager
    3. Go under System devices
    4. Disable (DO NOT UNINSTALL) the Microsoft UAA driver.
    5. Reboot back into Safe Mode (This is so that driver will not load)
    6. Open Device Manager
    7. Go to System devices
    8. Now... uninstall the Microsoft UAA driver.
This will also remove the Realtek. (This part, I'm not 100% sure of. Check in Add/Remove and try to delete Realtek if it is there)
    9. Reboot to Windows XP.
    10. Say "NO" to Windows when it tries to reinstall the drivers. Install the Realtek drivers yourself.

And that was in the System area of Device Manager?
(I do belive you. I have seen Realtek do some weird things.) :D

Can you do this while in Safe Mode?

In Add/Remove Programs, uninstall Realtek, then look for the KB888111 update and uninstall it.
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB888111 (may be in SP3)
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes, and then exit Registry Editor.
Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...ish_d4191.html
Reboot (normal), but don't let Windows install the driver.

Install your driver, then reboot, again.

yes that was in system in device manager.

    Not showing nothing of

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB888111 (may be in SP3)

    anywhere in regedit.

One thing i can do tho while in safe mode, which i dont have to option to do in normal windows .. is now un-inistall/ disable the list of things in my sound and audio in device manager. below ....

    AUDIO CODECS
    LEGACY AUDIO DRIVERS
    LEGACY VIDEOM CAPTUR DEVICES
    MEDIA CONTROL DEVICES
    VIDEO CODECS.

what would happen if un-installed/disabled them them in safe mode ??????? just a question.
