Please Help! Weird Error Message.

I have no idea what I did but I think I messed up something big because for some reason every time I click on any program and even stuff in the control panel I get an error message that says

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel."

I don't know HOW I got the shortcut in my start menu for Firefox to work but nothing else does.

I don't have the problem described in this thread, but I was interested in it, so I went to the above link and looked at their directions to go to Win Explorer under tools / folder options / and File Types. Interesting enough, in my computer .exe is not listed alphabetically as one of the file types. This puzzled me. Do you know of any reason why it wouldn't be listed if everything is functioning normally?

It says make sure it isn't there. No I don't know why it would be there at all.

 

But my winzip won't open it since the trial period has expired. Is there another way I can go about getting this same file? Because yes I do have XP.

*Edit it opened it but when I tried to run it it gives me the same error message like everything else...Any other suggestions? Evilfantasy I tried both those links and I'm still lost. I'm something of a computer slow person...
