I've been having this problem for a couple of weeks now.. maybe a month. It doesn't happen everytime I reboot or turn on PC. But when it does happen the ONLY way to get it to boot is from a restore point. Well, I rebooted earlier, and it happened again. This time when I said to system restore, it told me there aren't any restore points.

So now I can't get on Windows period.

I've been googling all day and have tried everything I could find and nothing has fixed this so far.

I do have my Windows install cd. I've tried repairing, I've tried bootrec/fixmbr, bootrec/fixboot I've tried chkdsk c:/f in the cmnd prompt. I even hit f12 on startup and evetythig seems to be checking out ok. And I know all my files are still there cause when it asked me if I wanted to load drivers, I could browse through all my folders and files.

I'm almost positive this is from a Windows update because that's when it started occuring, right after

The startup repair gave me these details on the problem:

    Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
    Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 03: unknown
    Problem Signature 04: 21200525
    Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
    Problem Signature 06: 16
    Problem Signature 07: BadPatch
    OS VERSION 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
    LOCAL ID 1033

I need to get this sorted asap as Internet Marketing is my full time job. I also have all of my music over the years on there and a bunch of bookmarks for my browser and important txt files so I can't really afford to lose my files :'(

Please help me and try to save the files. Like I said this happened a few times and when I did restores everything was fine and all my files were okay.

    Thanks in advance.

Describe more on what happens when you try to boot into Windows normally.

Why do you think this is a Windows Update related? Is the PC trying to finish installing updates each time you boot up but instead loops (restarts) and tries all over again?

What happens is it acts like its going to start up.. then it shows the windows logo and then instantly restarts and it keeps doing this process non stop

What makes me believe this was caused from a windows update is because that's about when this problem started happening and I've been googling and a bunch of other people have had the same problem occur after a Windows update

    Try the following:

    Reboot your PC
Start pressing F8 continuously during bootup until you get to a "Advanced Boot Options" menu.
This is what it looks like:

From the list, go down to the one that says : Disable automatic restart on system failure
    Press ENTER

Your system will now attempt to boot, when and if you get a bluescreen, it will stick. Write down any and all technical information for us to review here

    Thanks for the quick replies.

    This is what I get:

STOP:c0000135 The program can't start because %hs is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem

Is it possible you got infected? We see this exact BSOD typically when a user is infected with ZeroAccess / Sirefef / Maxplus (rootkit).

You can try this if you want:

http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/1263/frst.gif For 32-bit (x86) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For 64-bit (x64) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

    Enter System Recovery Options.

To enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account and click Next.

To enter System Recovery Options by using Windows installation disc:

    • Insert the installation disc.
    • Restart your computer.
    • If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
    • Click Repair your computer.
    • Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.
On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
    • Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this log to your next reply. (How to attach)

I see now that you started out in the Malware Removal forum and then created this topic.

Most likely this BSOD is malware related but I will know for sure once you attach FRST.txt

    Try this:

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

    Attached is fixlist.txt
    • Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your flash drive.

    Now re-enter System Recovery Options.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (How to attach)

    Now attempt to boot normally.

Thanks for the help. So I'm assuming there is still a virus on my pc? What should I do about my internet problem? Looks like whatever virus or bad file I got ahold of screwed my network bridge driver. Internet was fine until I couldn't get the pc out of that loophole

I've posted some instructions for you in the Malware Removal forum. Yes the PC is still infected according to your FRST log. We'll see what remains after you attach the logs requested (in malware removal forum).
