Hi. I'm new here so sorry if I don't exactly know what I'm talking about but I'll try and explain my problem as best I can:

I have an Acer Aspire 5710 Laptop Vista Home Premium, which was working perfectly. A short while ago, I decided to upgrade my Audio drivers. I downloaded the new drivers off the Realtek Site, a file called 6285_Vista_APO_PG536.zip

I then extracted and installed it, it started by first deleting/removing the old Realtek drivers which were already there, and then by installing itself, the newer ones, however something popped up, and it failed, then asked me to restart my computer. I restarted, and to my surprise my Laptop showed no audio output device present. I then tried to re-install the drivers, but it continually fails, giving me an error code which I found out was due to a time out. I have since downloaded several different realtek drivers, both AC97 and HD audio and none of them will install without an error, freezing, timing out, or claiming to have been successfully installed and then after the prescribed restart having no effect whatsoever.

I have tried a myriad of suggestions and solutions posted here and elsewhere on the internet but to no avail. If only someone could show me exactly the drivers I need, and why they wont install or how to make them install I could enjoy my Laptop once more.

Thank you so much, any help given is appreciated.

    Hi

Computer makers like ACER etc tend to use specifically sourced and tailored hardware for their PCs, adn with this in mind the hardware like Audio, needs the specific driver that ACER has tested with the PC, the generic/unified drivers from the makers of the chips like Realtek do not always work.

Sp grab the Realtek driver from ACER for your model version here http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5710.html its under MS Windows Vista > Drivers and Utilities

But before installing uninstall any audio drivers that are listed in Add/Remove and also check in Device Manager for any Audio and Sound drivers still listed, if they are Right Click and Uninstall, then reboot and install the downloaded ones from ACER.

If you still get error codes do post the error message and code in full.
